I have been saying it for months and I know we were only playing Burnley but it said it all for me. As an attacking unit, we are ten times better having Barry and Vieira holding things and then incisively passing it forward than having that imposter De Jong anchoring the midfield.

If NDJ had played today, we would never in a million years have created what we did in the first half because we would have been far too sluggish to find that man in space to set up the counter attack.

He got some stick (probably rightfully) against Wigan last week but if we are to attain top four, we need to keep Vieira in the side and permanently ditch De Jong.

I think that Mancini is bright enough to realise this, he is astute enough not to be brainwashed by the clueless and I really think that the dropping of De Jong and the inclusion of Vieira will be the singlemost thing that gets us into the Champions League next years.

i agree. hes not the best attacking minded player. i do rate his commitment though and he has halped us grind some results.

he's helped us win so many games since he's been at city, he's the kind of player only needed for certain games though, i love him, my favourite player this season so far,

i'd keep him on the bench for Brum.

i really like nigel, i think hes great at what he does.

but we should throw everthing at weaker teams.

i also think we should remain unchanged for brum, to carry the momentum (even thought they aren't a weak team).

God. I'm so torn on this. I love Nigel. He's been key in some games where he just kills the opponents chances of creating ANYTHING in the midfield. That being said, I wonder if the rest of the team is more fit to play a different style like the one you saw today and other games where we score many goals.

He's very important to City, there are games where were not going to have so much of the ball as yesterday, games where were under the cosh, De-jong is vital in such games, it's not as simple to say were better with or without him, no two games are the same, thats why it really is a squad game these days.

Please please shut up, morons!

Yesterday's game was a game Nigel could've played in, replacing Vieira! Besides the headed goal, there was nothing in the midfield dept that NdJ could not have done. Really, please tell what Patrick did more than Nigel? I'd really love the analysis!!

I'm so sick of the stupid opinions on this board, about players, at times! Neds, apparently, is rubbish. So is de Jong. Blah blah, blah blah.

The majority of the opinions are unfounded.

to suggest that anyone with a different opinion to you is a moron is pretty fucking arrogant imo.
if you asked 100 fans about any player you'd get many different views, there's no need to get drawn into name calling and bitching.

hush now big man. he's damned good at what he does, as well as being a good lad, and tough as old boots, but he can't pass for toffee. it's just a tactical thing. if we had sneijder and van der vaart ahead of him, it balances out beautifully... but at the moment we have barry and/or viera, so it doesn't.

Fair enough and apologies, Wrongun.

I don't care about different opinions, I'm glad of them. Except when they are baseless.

I just want the explanation behind the opinions. There's none, as a rule, except Nigel "passes sideways"! WTF?? Patty V did that a lot yesterday, but somehow, he's magically more an improvement on Nigel dJ!

I can't work it out, is all!

NDJ is a good 'water carrier' but needs to be surrounded by quality creative midfielders to be effective. We don't have these at the moment so it exposes the obvious weakness in his game. If we sign a Sneijder/Van Der Vaart in the summer, De Jong will come into his own, and look a much better player. In the meantime, he doesn't get into the team unfortunately, as we're looking to win games and the balance of the side looks much better without him.

thats what i mean though, everyone sees different things. im not a big lover of de jong where my mate thinks he's the dogs' danglers. by the way my mind is never completely made up, if i see de jong start to improve, (in my eyes) i will be the first to admit i was wrong about him.

thats because hes not an attacking midfielder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in all fairness viera played well, however it was against a static inept burnley midfield

What you've got remember is that Veira and Barry are very experienced pro's having totally developed there trade. Where as Nige is still learning his and what better role model to have than Paddy along side you.

And after we let him go we will be crying for a player just like him when we start to get out muscled in midfield..

And by then Manchini will have been busy in the transfer market.

Watched the first half again this morning and Vieira played very well (probably our best player). He's far more of a playmaker than De Jong will ever be. He also scored a header from a corner which I doubt De Jong would have done.

But, hey, Bigga, you know best!

Late to the party, as always, I see.

Header? Already addressed. As for the playmaker remark... Guess what...? de Jong isn't a playmaker!! Like has been said earlier, if that had been a much more energetic midfield, do you really think Pat would've kept pace?

Go on, give me the honest opinion...
