Yesterday I was listening to Itunes on my laptop, I went out so I paused Itunes and closed my laptop leaving it on standby. When I returned and opened the laptop it wouldnt come back on so I had to turn the laptop off and reboot. Ever since then I have had no sound on my laptop and it claims there is no audio device present. When I open Itunes it tells me that since my audio configuration is faulty that Itunes wont operate. Lack of music :(

Help me please :)

turn it off propperly not just re starting it. then when you do start it up "from cold" it should detect your audio device and re install the drivers for it and it should work. failing that go into device manager and look for a yellow question mark against audio devices and install the driver that way.

How do I get to device manager, I'm a bit of a idiot when it comes to computers i'm afraid :(

start menu..then right click my computer...then properties...there you will find a tab saying hardware...click on this tab and device manager is on there

now click on device manager and scroll down...you will probably see a yellow exclamation mark...saying something like unknown device or uknown sound device

run a windows update..see if it picks up an audio driver in the software section of windows update

if not..you will need to identify what make your onboard sound is...in many cases it will be ac'97 sound

Tried that and the only thing that had the yellow exclamation next to it was a network adapter, I ran an update on that which failed. The sound devices are all drivers but no hardware. It's almost as if the speakers on the laptop have dissapeared completely. I had a similar problem last year but CCcleaner resolved it in the issues bit.

I'm off out now and gutted I have no music in my wank pit of a Uni room.

Anything else I could try Shady? I'll buy you a pint next time I'm up for a game mate :)

Cheers anyway fellas!

you could remove the sound drivers from add/remove programmes or via device manager

then reboot and when it restarts it should try and find sound drivers again.....if that fails then try windows update page as you will have no sound drivers on and by rights it should find the required ones

What laptop mate? Sounds like a driver problem. Let me know which laptop and I'll have a look for your driver software.
