I thought buying him was silly. Then he showed up and played really well. Then stopped getting played then Sane and Jesus showed serious potential and suddenly I'm back to my original ageist position that we should never have gotten him.

But can't deny i liked him a lot more now than when we bought him.

Who would you bench for him?
Keep trying to tell people this. With all the attacking players fit, at least 1, but often 2 from Nolito, Navas and Iheanacho don't even make the bench, assuming we want to pick a balanced subs bench. Navas is the preferred player out of those 3 by the management team, so Nolito and Iheanacho's futures appear to be elsewhere. Iheanacho will go on loan first, but Nolito we'd all imagine will leave permanently in the summer.

Anyone else think he might go this summer? Looking at how fast and dynamic our attack is with the likes of Sane-Jesus-Sterling. Can Nolito still play a part?

Id keep him as a squad player as Navas is out of contract, but Nolito might want to leave if he wants more game time.

Yes but the question is can he still keep his discipline. He has played a few games since Bournemouth but I don't think Pep has been impressed with him

The way Sane is playing is the level we should be looking for, if Nolito can make that level (he can't) then he has a place in the squad. In reality he was a bad buy who will disappear, either with ever reducing game time or by leaving the club.

I'm not having that he was a bad buy. He contributed a lot to our early season run. His goals and assists against minutes played is right up there.

Feel a bit sorry for Nolito, he's played well (one or two brain farts aside), just has the misfortune to be in the one area of the squad where we are well and truly stocked behind 3 players in red hot form for two positions. Would like to see him on the bench a bit more often though, especially for the harder games as his ball retention is better than Sané, Jesus or Sterling's and we could use him to close out games.

When people say he's not as good as Sané, really they mean he's not as quick as Sané. Not really his fault. Think he should be played more central if we need cover for Silva or De Bruyne. Still a very good player with a great goal/assist per minute ratio.

He did ok at the start. I think him popping up in the right place at the right time a few times masked his overall contribution which in my opinion was distinctly average. I don't see him having any future at the club, he is struggling for game time now and I don't see it getting any easier for him. Whether or not he goes down as a bad buy will probably be determined by how much we get for him, if we get most of our money back then you could argue he did a job. If however we let him go for next to nothing, as we have done with others in the past he will be considered a poor purchase.

It will be difficult for him to get a starting place because he is simply not good enough. Still a useful option to have on the bench and hopefully can get some cup games and is versatile enough to play along that front three and contribute in a positive manner when called upon.

I think his overall contribution was quite good, his tenacity was a joy to watch and helped us a lot early doors but most importantly he brought a balance to the side through his positional discipline, that has been overlooked in analysis.

He still has that record that every PL game he's started ( 9 games ) we've won.

He was bought as an experienced head to make an immediate impact and take the pressure off the young guys to make an immediate impact.

I think all that's happened is he played a little less because of the suspension, and Sané & G. Jesus have got up to speed quicker than expected, which might make it look like his impact was smaller than it was.

Still 3 in competitions, if we are going to have a successful season, he will have a large role to play yet.
