The pitch was probably playable when the ref arrived, even get a local ref to check around 11 am, but if it is playable then, and the Robins want the big Saturday derby crowd, it is hard to call off.

Thought I'd go for a tropical game today.

My dog Panda has been to at least 2 games this season. More than some armchair fans.

Anyone else at Altrincham today ? Got to Moss Lane at 2.30pm. Pint enjoyed inside before coming out just before 3.00 kick off to see the pitch was deserted. Game called off literally 10 minutes before kick off due to a frozen pitch. The weather hadn't changed since lunchtime - cold and dry and sunny - so why leave it so late ? At least I didn't have as far to travel as the Morecambe fans.
The Altrincham website has a log of events. Parts of the pitch was recommended for heat lamps. Looks like the warm up identified the pitch remained frozen in parts.

Still strange to only confirm 15 minutes prior to kick off the game was off.

Maine Rd is and was a social club with a team. Doing well, nevertheless. WD&C have rapidly progressed. Not a bad thing. Decent set up - like a Northern Forest Green blended into St Pauli. Their supporter base has grown in strength and they have a fair set oif values.
Occasionally go to both
A little simplistic but basically Maine Road are mainly watched by local Mancs, usually but not exclusively blues. It’s largely run as a young player development club and has traditionally suffered a bit financially
West are largely watched by non-manc hipsters and Chorlton stereotypes and so attract a broader base of fans from clubs all over the country who’ve moved to the area.
Get huge crowds for their level and probably underachieve a bit given their gate incomes in recent years, though the BBC/media city nimbys living nearby also prevent them from utilising the ground and clubhouse more
Always found it a little odd that Didsbury Blues were one of the sponsors of the latter rather than the former but I suppose there’s a reason
