Norwich away-first game of season 1982

Went on a coach with a City flag covering the rear window. In the city centre up ahead there was a group of Norwich skin heads outside a pub. I shouted back to take the flag down and got told (by lads who couldn't see what I could see) to fuck off. Next thing the bus is pelted with glasses and bottles and the driver puts his foot down and going over red lights as the skin heads chased the bus.
Further up we got stuck in traffic and the driver opened his doors and we all got off sharpish and legged it. Me and two others stumbled across the cathedral and just like The Likely Lads we sought sanctuary for 20 or 30 mins and then silently followed the crowds to Carrow Road - only we ended up at the home end side of the end where the away fans were housed and the police wouldn't let us through so we had to walk around the entire ground to get to the away end.
A few mins into the game David Cross puts us 1 up.
We won the first 3 games to go top of the league..... and relegated in May v Luton

Great day out, nice and hot, beers by the river, won 2-1 David Cross header. Going home on the train got booted off at a place called Ely. Don't remember much after that. Happy days.
Norwich were up for it that day had a bit of a run at the back of the special probably the only time I've seen them mob up(pre match ) I was on the special

They had a go I think the special arrival was on time with them exitiing the pubs in the town centre first went there in 76 for the vikings 0 2 win Kidd and Royal happy days
Yes I was at the '76 match too, I think for the 82/83 one I went on the service train so missed the trouble with the special. Also remember the 6-1 win against Norwich at Stamford Bridge in the 2nd replay League Cup tie. City had the Shed terrace, pissed it down all night, crowd was about 6,000 and we still had about twice as many as Norwich and they didn't have as far to travel.
