correct me if im wrong but surely this summer we will have more revenue from the champions league than ever before because of reaching the semi final , wont it be next summer that revenues suffer if we fail to get champions league next season ?

Apart from all the other PL teams get exactly the same TV money as we do, but Arse, Spurs, potentially rags and Liverpool will get CL money as well. Brilliant business plan
I don't support City for their business plan.
Every PL team will be able to spend big in the summer; us included.
We'll still be able to buy players if we finish 5th. Aside from not having CL football, it's irrelevant to us. Players will come for Pep.

You may not think how things can change right now for the club budget and still think we can buy any player in the world. That was true when oil price was 120$. I live in Abu Dhabi and see some change here. Now I would say wait and see. I don't know for sure. I sit and wait and pray nothing change for the club budget.

yup but that effect is unknowable to the likes of us; each player we try and sign will have a different mentality and a different way of being influenced by the club's attempts at signing them (extra 50k per week ;) )

Which is the point I was making.
If we had to miss out for a year, this would be the one we would pick as we have Pep coming and the TV money coming in to soften the financial blow.
Pep has a track record of bringing youngsters through. The EL would give them more first team exposure than they would get if we were in the CL.
It could be a positive thing if we find some gems in the youth team that can step up.

Dax said few years ago that signing Demichelles instead of Toby Alderwield is a mistake and see how that turns out.
And there are many other examples of how badly we spend our money.

Demichelis was actually a good signing for 2 seasons, bad example to pick.Its not about how much money you have, its how you spend it.
