RIP Sue & Sam.
...it's time that some people learned how to be gracious in defeat.

If you think that losing to Liverpool in a PL match is worthy of pages of doom and gloom what is going to be like when we get knocked out of the CL or lose a cup final.

Losing is all part of the experience - unless you want to take on board the rag attitude - we are who we are and we expect to win all the time - if we lose we'll throw our toys out of the pram, blame whoever we can and sulk about it.

There was a lot learned by the team and the manager on Monday - I know Mancini made the wrong decisions but I'm sure he's learned by his mistakes. Saying that they won't be his last.

Losing is part of the game of football - without losing you can't appreciate winning. We should know that more than anyone in the top five. People have got carried away with our recent success and expect it all the time. When we don't meet their new levels of expectations all hell breaks loose on here and it's as though we've been relegated the the third tier again. The reality is that have suddenly been shot into the limelight and we weren't ready for it. It'll take time to build a squad to compete with the teams above us.

There are/were people who genuinely thought that we were just going to blow the rags, Chelsea and Arsenal clean out of the water and brush aside anyone who got in our way. The reality is that we are going to be able to compete with them in the near future - there is no way that the rags are simply going to buckle under the pressure and become another Blackburn/Leeds and fade away after winning the PL. They will not go bust either - if the Glazers do get them into trouble there'll be a queue waiting to snap them up.

It's time we enjoyed the good times, took the bad ones on the chin and accepted that things don't always go our way. Unless you want to be like the rags of course?

hear, hear

We've had the moaning and crying when we lose ever since the takeover so can take that. (Even though it shouldn't happen, it does and nobody has managed to stop it yet). What I hate is criticising all the players and saying they're shit. Just dismissing players if they're not playing well or scoring goals. People need to realise Kolarov, Balotelli, Dzeko, Milner etc. are not all shit, they're just not in form and not playing well. To say they're shit is arrogant and wrong. Should be backing the players.

i dont mind losing games but the manner of the loss (an appaling performance) and the manner of other performances and questionable tactics (again at various parts of the season) is a major cause for concern.

I want RM to succeed as it means city succeed but I really cannot stand his defensive negative approach and his insistance on playing a slow pedestrian midfield.

He is not new to management. If he had not learned this mistake in Italy why is he our manager, its not rocket science, all he had to do was shuffle 300 million pounds worth of talent into a team capable of giving Liverpool a game. The biggest thing we learned as fans on monday was how little progress has been made. We may beat Rags on saturday because anything can happen in a one off game but the top 4 will elude us i fear. And another thing if we reach the final this bunch of bottlers are bound to lets us down, with the three stooges there on the touchline for all and sundry to laugh at.

Never a truer word spoken

Great post

Every team has bad games and things go wrong. As long as we (Club, manager, players and fans)can learn from this, only then can you go forward further.

We will get there, but it will not be over night.

I don't want to hear about 3 yrs and 300mil down the line we haven't won anything. As long as each year we improve on the year before is a movement in the right direction.

Next year I fear will be harder still. If Liverpool add a few more quality players, they will be in the mix for the top 4 also.

If we'd have lost with even a hint of a whimper people wouldn't be as wound up.

But it was 5 days before a semi final derby, and we were awful.

Just....awful.

Although in sentiment I agree with the OP, I think the above post sums it up for me. It was not the result itself, it was the manner in which we lost. I have the misfortune to live in Liverpool, be married to a red scouse and have a host of scouse friends (both blue and red).

I keep saying to them that we are on the up, but both Everton and Liverpool have beaten us with scratch sides. I was really confident of a good display (whether that lead to a win or not) on Monday, and instead had to endure the snipes and sniggers of the Liverpool fans I went to the match with. I genuinely thought those days were over - the days when we routinely lost to them. In fact after the match, I had the same feeling of embarrassment and anger as after the 6-0 debacle under Ball (at least this time our manager didn't say he enjoyed it like Ball did then) - that can't be right can it?
