Old Manchester motorbike shops from yesteryear....

There was a bike shop in walkden / swinton use to specialise in used triumph tridents had some lovely bikes can’t remember the owners name closed now I think . Another bike shop in the 80s in sale opposite magnet had some descent Yamahas in I recall .
The only bike shop i knew of in Walden was Pip Higham`s Village Bike Shop . Has a few engine upgrades done there on my Eddie Lawson Reps .

My wonderful 1981 Honda Super Dream 250N (undergoing restoration) has a sticker from the Honda Shop, Eccles.
That's lovely to see.
My lc has the original number plate, and datatool stickers. It's never been painted. I've even got the dealer sales invoice and service book.
The 250 dream is a lovely bike, always nice to see them in the wild.

This shop was no more than an end of terrace with small showroom always had a few mint 70s triumph tridents . On the a6 I think . Will have to drive past now but long gone .

That's a fabulous bike mate, a real shame its not being used as its a proper mile muncher. Yeah I imagine they are a beast to move about. As I get older I find I'm riding my rd 350 a lot more than my litre bikes as its just so easy to manage a light bike.
Sorry to hear about your health problems mate, keep positive and thanks for posting the pic.
Take care bud
Thanks. I'm 67 in a couple of weeks and the intention is to get it back on road before I hit 70 :) I've been to pretty much every country in Europe on the GoldWing and it never missed a beat. Pic is in Germany near he Czech border.
My first proper bike was an RD250 in 1975, worth a fortune now if I still had it!

Great stuff mate, I hope you get back on it. You've done some miles on that, respect.
There's a guy near me well into his eighties, still rides his harley regularly.
Ride safe bud

It's been on SORN for the last few years, needs a new front tyre, fuel system cleaning and a new battery but I haven't been in the best of health over the last couple of years and I'm not really strong enough to heave it around these days!

Still haven't got the strength to do anything with this and not much chance of me ever doing it so I've decide to reluctantly sell it. V5 is in my name and I have the original owner's handbook and 'pink slip' from Ohio. It's a 1985 and done 44,000 miles. Offers?

This is my current bike which I’ve owned since 2007, originally sold by Claremont Motorcycles Limited, 275/277 Stamford Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, as indicated on the number plate.

250f the last one
I bought a new 250e from dereks place in 78
ANF212T really nice and pretty quick once run in, went back under warranty because occasionally the engine would fire in reverse
Strange feeling letting clutch out and the bike going backwards.
They could never replicate it.
Ended up sticking a new cdi unit on it and that cured it.
Got banned shortly after that.

Edit: after a 28 year gap of bikes family and all that got back on the road 2017
Thought I’d re-create the 80s by buying a ratty old 31k powervalve off Facebook
When it turned up I was shocked how bad it was heart over head I still bought it.

Anyone who has restored an old bike from days gone by will be able to relate to the fact this bike basically emptied my bank and savings account.

Bike looked factory new when I finished it
One ride to the lakes and back made me realise two things.

One, I completely ruined the brand new look of the bike through stonechips etc
e.g unpainted cockpit fairing alone cost me £500 nos bellypan £400 etc

And two although it was great reliving my youth on it i spent more time stripping carbs and cleaning it than anything else.

Old two strokes just can’t take the thrashing they did on todays shite fuel

Several bikes later I’m on a 2024
Tiger gt pro but I really miss going round the bike shops in the 70s on my fizzy

Great post, here's my f2 pv, it's mostly original. 17k genuine miles. Just had the engine rebuilt, cost a fortune, but worth it.IMG-20220424-WA0005.jpg

Me and a mate both bought brand new 350f
In 85, went round the peaks to run em both in the same day.
Got pulled on way home on the m67 by the plod
Amazingly he was only interested in the bikes as he hadn’t seen these before.
I traded mine in for an f2 in 1990.
One of the best bikes I’ve ever owned
Same colour as yours.
Think I forked out about £1200 to rebuild the 31k engine but that included brand new powervalves and a re-sleeve of the valve ports.its pricy restoring these fuckers but loved every minute of it.

Dave at mutts nuts has just relieved me of almost 3k for my rebuild, but it's had everything, crank, rebore, seals, oil pump etc, and a zeeltronic ignition. Made 58hp on the dyno after running in. Happy with that, pulls really well, even with my fat arse on it.
