Old shirts/kits......where do they go?

Just wondering, what happens to all the old kits the team wore throughout the years?

Must be talking hundreds of kits a year going back donkeys years.

So what happens to them all?

Never seen a documentary on Africa I take it?

Yes of course, i knew a lot get donated but picking one a year at random, 1993/94; all the home, away, goalkeeper and training kits, thats a lot to get rid of.

They don't all go to Africa surely??

Just having a laugh. It's actually a decent question, I'd be curious if anyone close to the club had any answers about it. Surely they don't chuck it in the trash bin?

That's what I mean, you'd think the amount over the years that we've gone through would mean you could pick up a Terry Phelan away shirt on Oldham market!

Would be interesting to see where some older kits like the 1994 Centenary shirt went.

I am genuinely curious about this. I seem to remember a scene in what appeared to be a store room at the Etihad where there was a rail full of shirts so I'm guessing the club keep one of each for posterity.

Sometimes they will get bought in bulk by shirt collecting stores. Not City exactly but I know one store bought the whole range of Sporting Gijon, Napoli, AC Milan and Fiorentina shirts and other things like track suits and such. Some stuff match worn and/or player issued shirts as well.

I know of an owner based in Aberystwyth who has entire kits of City and Spurs over several seasons. They are often held back to gain value.

Classicfootballshirt.co.uk release an odd one or two.
