Good on the ball and seems like a popular member of the squad

The problem is he’s a liability when asked to do any defending

We’re normally so good it doesn’t usually cost us , we just weren’t good yesterday

At the time of his battlefield promotion that’s all we needed, a trier, as we were desperate

That said, it’s been 2 years now and I can still seeing the cogs turning in his head even when making the most basic of passes

He’s also very slow and given the back line(less walker) along with Rodders, Gundogen and D.Silva, the whole team was slow so that probably didn’t help with his defensive exposure

Will Angelino get a start soon?

Well we'd better have some other option in place by the time we play Liverpool or we'll be looking at an 8 point gap for certain. Can you imagine what Salah will do to him? Doesn't bear thinking of.

Or attacking. I mean seriously how many goals or assists does he get? How many bursts through to the by-line. How many whipped in crosses?

Sorry to go on. He's a trier, and a blue and I thank him for both. But he adds nothing to our game other than slowing it down.

Passing the ball aimlessly around when 6-0 up? Yes he can do that, probably.

Salah can make the best left-backs in the league look silly so I think that is a particularly high bar

But the wider point stands. We can carry him and his faults when we’ve got Laporte behind him, a quick midfield and Sterling/Sane in front of him

Is Angelino actually any good or have we bought him with a few to selling him on than more than we bought him for? Rumours were PSG we’re looking at him for 20mil

His main problem is lack of pace, but this season his passing has been shocking. At the end of the day he is a square peg in a round hole, we need a fit Mendy back ( very optimistic I know)

Not very good yesterday and not for the first time this season. Not his natural position I know so we need to stop playing him there now I hope mendy can stay fit because he Really is needed now.

I get quite annoyed when people defend him to the hilt on here. He`s playing out of position, for that I can give him the benefit of the doubt.
What really pisses me of is his poor passing even when he moves into a midfield position.Certainly he`ll get the odd ball into a fine attacking move, but they are very few and far between (ie the pass to David Silva for the first goal v Brighton).I read from someone on here that the stats say he has a 90% successful pass rate.I very rarely take stats into consideration as they can be manipulated by our fans to suit their argument. After yesterday that 90% should be well down.
Not his fault he`s not a full back and for the first time ever I think thats a fault of Peps.We signed a £60M full back who we`re told can play either side.Well if thats the case bloody hell Pep give the lad a chance.
If you pass the ball either sideways or backwards then thats always going to help your cause in getting a higher success rate.

I dont think this is fair or accurate. He doesnt get a lot of assists, but if you watch a lot of our goals, he is involved in a lot of them 1 or 2 passes before the assist.

There is a statistical back up to that as well, if you care for stats.

We have a champions league left back that PSG were going to pay 25m for playing for the u23s and Cancelo who cost 60 on the bench because Pep prefers the trier over them. It's not because he tries hard, it's because - bad games like yesterday excepted - a good player at that position.

He’s good at recycling possession and often makes a pre assist to sterling or silva

I think what’s happening this season is what happened with Delph. Had a good / great season when playing at his maximum possible level , probably because he’s determined to keep his place in the team . This season his level has dropped which means he’s not really good enough , he may get back to that level though

Angelino looked even more suspect than him defensively in pre season so I can’t see him being the answer , he’ll get a go in the cups though I would imagine

Let’s hope Mendy comes back soon ...
