When it comes to the crunch. We're found wanting...

I'll explain. Burnley away, Brum at home, easy wins. Although we needed to win to keep our CL chances alive, in truth, they were routine games we should have won.

But when it matters we struggle. Look at the facts. Rags at home, big game, we don't perform, and lose. Everton at home, difficult game, we don't perform, we lose. Stoke in the cup, big game against a hard working side, we don't perform, we lose. Carling Cup semi final first leg. It's two legs, we manage a 2-1 win, then in the second, we don't perform and we lose. Liverpool at home, 0-0 draw when we could have won. We go to Hull, and lose.

I'm sorry but the games against Villa and Spuds are massive games, but sadly, when we're up against it against a decent side, we lose. I can see Villa and Spurs beating us at COMS.

Maybe it's because Bobby Manc is too cautious, and with the Brum and Burnley games we had to have a go, but maybe he hasn't got the bottle to have a go at the top sides?

Sorry to be so pessimistic...It's just how I see it...

Double over Chelsea and beaten Arsenal this season. You claim Burnley and Brum were easy wins, but Stoke and Hull were big games we lost, both surely as big as each other? The reason we lost the three against United is that they are a better team than us. Next season though...

chelsea top 6 points need to say anymore

The exact case in point - it was not a must win game - how i would swop the 3 piints from Chelski for 3 points from the spuds at White hart lane.

We have never won our must win or must not lose games - the old predicatble city is still alive and kicking - me cant see us beating both the spuds and villa and not hopeful against Arse although in all fairness we should get something out of it wit their injuries.

Dont worry mate. Look at the POSITIVES only 6 league defeats ALL SEASON.
We beat Chelea home and away.
We beat Arsenal twice and have a chance to beat to beat the 3 times in the one season.
We drew with Liverpool twice.
We were robbed twice against the Rgas.
We drew at Villa Park when we could of easily won the game.
We beat Fulham away ( Not many teams did that this season)

Trust me Villa and Tottenham will be far more worried of us than we will of them.

We've beaten the top 2 sides in the league under Mancini, and have a chance at beating the third this weekend.

Villa and Spurs at home are only big games should we get something at Arsenal , and Spurs lose at the Swamp ..... the games are running out now ............. if we don't get anything at the Emirates , and Spurs win , it's practically all over bar the shouting!

Mancini can be as optimistic as he likes ....... should the above games go against us , he's not likely to be finishing 4th!

I think City have given us such a range of results and emotions this season that you can pick and choose to justify any argument.

This, its been one of the one most exiting seasons in many years we are in mid April and fighting not relegation but for potential champions league football.

dont understand swap 3 points from chelski for 3 points from spuds total 3 points??????????

It's not easy at the top, is it?

Results matter more than we are used to

It's been a few decades since I have been thinking about the results of Liverpool, Villa and Spurs, and I'm quite enjoying it, in a City sort of way.

What happens happens, but we will be playing in Europe next season, and how many years do we have to go back since we did that on merit.

I think we have had a great season, I am watching the best team I have seen since the '70's, last Saturday was a downer for all of us, but at least we are looking up.

After years of shit, we are looking at the top of the table, and I am enjoying every second. It is going to get better, but it is'nt going to be easy.

I said this before on another thread, that big crunch games such as the home games against Liverpool, Everton, United and the second leg of the Carling Cup, we seem to freeze. Its as if the players have a "fear" of taking that next step. The Liverpool and Everton games would have put us in a great position in 4th, yet we never seized the opportunity. The derby was a good opportunity to put distance between ourselves and Spurs, and also dent their title hopes. Again we didn't show up. 2nd half of the Carling Cup we were 45 minutes away from Wembley, and just crumbled after the somewhat unfortunate equaliser. I think its to do that alot of the players have never been under this scrutiny and expectation before, and also down to some conservative tactics from Mancini. Taking off Johnson for Vieira on the weekend, was very much a Rafa Benitez sort of move, lets just settle for a point.

What about Chelsea tottenham last week or even Arsenal tottenham..do you not think these were not crucial games to these regular top 4 sides and they got it wrong too..

shit happens my friend..and that is why we love football.

Listen guys if this was a 3 year project I'd be worried, but it isn't its 2 years into a 10.

Everybody has said you cant buy the title and success, and its true you can't, you have to have these players bed in. I have seen our team start to mature this season as most of them have been together now for 2 seasons and look where we are 5th with a chance of 4th.

Keep the faith, we will get there. But God help us if we act like this when we're only going for fourth, what are we going to be like when we are challenging for the title!!!

It's ridiculous that it now comes down to the last 4 games. In truth none of us expected 4th to be honest back in August. We have done well this season. However, where it went 'pear shaped' was IMO, Burnley 3 - 3, Hull 1 - 1 & Fulham 2 - 2. 6 points dropped against poor to average opposition, that's where our campaign faltered not losing out to the rags.

For the first few seasons at CoMS I always thought that we gave the big teams a decent game - we might have lost to them, but we gave them a decent game. We always buggered up against the trapdoor wallahs. I remember one season where three home games near on the run WBA, Norwich, and BBurn I think, all of them on the bottom when we played them. Think we got two points out of those three games.

These days we can beat the best. On Saturday, the whole of MANUre, team, management and fans were bricking it - they knew that we had the potential to stuff 'em. Only needed a bounce of the ball (or David Villa in the middle!) and we would have done it.

We are infinitely better than any season since moving to CoMS and much better than many a season at Maine Road. Opposition teams and fans know it. They clearly don't like it, but they understand that we are no easy turnover. There will be blips in the future, but it is a future that beckons substantial success. We deserve it; we've waited longer than most for it. Rejoice in it!
