Orchid care.

Any orchid enthusiasts on here? My wife has about 12 which grow very well and bloom well. Over the last two winters we have been away in NZ and she usually puts them in the middle of the kitchen on the draining board and our daughter comes in once a fortnight and gives them a little watering. Last year everything survived but this year we lost about 5. The heating only comes on when the temperature drops below 10 degrees and consequently this winter it rarely came on. Any recommendations on how we can do this year?

I'm no expert but I would imagine that they froze their bollocks off. But then again, if it only happens when you move them and have somebody else water them, don't do that.
