Now guys and girls, the facts show that we at City already have one of the highest scoring attacks in the Premiership. By adding Tevez, Etoo and possibly RSC we will undoubtedly become number one. Our midfield is pretty strong too, although Elano will have to be replaced if he leaves. What we desperately need, however, is strength in depth at the back. Dunny showed in Sofia yesterday that, on his day, he is one of the best defensive players around and should not leave. Micah has the potential to be even better than Dunne, hopefully this coming season. However, we still need more defensive cover at right back, centre half and left back. Let us hope that Hughes (who, after all, was a striker as a player) does not overlook these frailties. We need to buy the likes of Glen Johnson, Hangeland and/or Lescott before we even think about Villa, Kaka or Ribery. Please let us get our priorities right...

Can't say youre wrong about our defence. It has been poor.
You make it sound asif we don't already know :/ it's pretty obvious tbh.
Question!
Why can't we go after those other attacking names? so long as we still keep an eye on signing defenders. We have a full trasfer window to go yet so lets have a bit of patience. I'm sure the club know what we need.

There's more to defending than simply buying defenders. In order to defend successfully, the whole team has to pull their weight, even adding the likes of Tevez to our forward line would probably benefit our defence. Having a player such as RSC who can hold up the ball and relieve the constant pressure on the defence would also be hugely helpfull. It would also help massively to have another tall body in the box when defending corners and free-kicks.

Having the ball is the best from of defence, see Barcelona as a perfect example, everyone knows that they actually have a relatively vulnerable back 4, but it's very rarely exposed because a) the whole team, even Eto'o, Messi and Henry, work to get the ball back when they lose it, and b) when they get the ball they keep it, and don't just launch it up the pitch back to the opposition.

Yes better defenders would help, but it's not the only reason for having a poor defensive record.

Cracking reply pee and I think this is a reason why I'm not that interested in the likes of Kaka, because of his lazy type playing style, all the great team defend from the front and you can't afford to many players in your team who don't track back.

A good reason why Javi Martinez would be the ideal buy!!

i would like us to add Hangeland and Lescott, then IF Micah is not in Hughes' plans then Glen Johnson would be a good buy also.

to be a decent defensive unit it is imperative you have someone who can dominate in the air, ala Vidic or Terry, and both Hangeland and Lescott are better at heading the ball than our current crop of defenders.

Great post....

Its hard to get people to understand that.... But its no fluke that alot of people seem to point out that all of out left backs are rubbish, The side of the pitch where Robbie is.... This is why Barry will actually sure up our defence.... He will play left side of the 3 in midfield and cover Bridge.... Also ain terms of defending from the front, is there a better player than Tevez for that ?????
