is 2nd to none barry's goal yesterday great unseen work by our centerbacks holding and pushing deep in the box giving space just out side the box for barry

loved that goal
its been many years since we work so hard in training on freekicks and corners
we can score from anywhere and from anybody

Fully agree about the movement but hate it when we take short corners. I am probably wrong but when was the last time we scored (directly) from a short corner? Just seems a waste every time we try it.

If worked correctly, short corners are brilliant. They change the angle of the cross, confuse the opposition defenders and can allow for a shot on target (Silva vs Swansea).

the only time i can remember and end product from a short corner if memory serves me correct, was a penalty last season.

i'm sure it was AJ, we played a short one with a one-two pass, and he got brought down as he went past the player.

Thought the set piece work yesterday was tip top, long, short and worked out. 100% better than last year (i know we are only 2 games in).

Im hoping it wasnt because Bolton are a big side and our usual big guys would of been nullified.

Keep working on the training ground guys

I liked the new tactic with 4 players at the half line, so Bolton had to leave 5 players back to deal with any kind of counter attack. so simple tactic but still so great.

love it!!

I'm the opposite. Without Vieira, we look more dangerous from short corners. Silva is excellent in those short corner situations. Also, remember against the rags in the semi final, we did 2 short corners in quick succession. Johnson skinned Evra and VDS nearly fumbled the cross into the net. Then we played another short corner where Silva crossed for Lescott's header that he should have done better with. Short corners are good.

I hate short corners, Benarbia used to frustrate the fuck out of me with them.
when weve got obvious height and power we should be using it!

Not when the team you're playing has giants in it as well. Especially when that team is Bolton, it's their bread and butter.

Put a cross in when the other team isn't as physically dominant. Play it through them when they are lumbering giants. Mancini got it spot on yesterday.

im not disagreeing, tactically it worked, i just hate short corners, just a personal dislike.

its just to mix it up short or long

but movement is key players have a role and work hard on the training ground
unseen work also just look and barry goal we push and blocked the bolton players deep in the box giving barry all the time in the world

we was never a team who work hard on corners and freekick but mancini thinks about everything top coaching

I think we've had a few successes from short corners last year (Tottenham for 1), and we have scored 2 from short free kicks that I can remember (I am sure there is more because we seem to focus on them a lot now which is good IMO) - Kolarov at home to Dynamo Kyiv and Silva away at Blackpool :)

I don't think it's a matter of which is better; short or long corners ... isn't it more about trying both in the same game, and being able to keep changing things. Defenders hate it when you keep trying different things, but they love it when you're predictable.

Also pleased to see that Lescott has started (toward the end of last season) to get on the end of various set-pieces .. something he was brilliant at for Everton, so we know he's capable of weighing-in with half-a-dozen goals a season that way.

And we needed to do something, because we scored easily the fewest headed goals last season of any team in the Premier League.

Maybe the lowest headed, but we scored the most goals from set plays (21).
