I really don't want to tempt fate too much here but for me this Wednesday’s game against Liverpool is just as important as yesterday. If we lose it will derail all the momentum gained from yesterday’s victory. If we win it could well be the start of a run that puts us firmly back in with a great chance of winning the league. I don't want to get too far ahead of myself but our next 5 league fixtures after Liverpool are definitely winnable if we’re anywhere close to being at our best and with the spine of our team all available again who would put it past us to win the next 6 games? Here are the games in question.
Villa (H)
Norwich (A)
Man Utd (H) (they play Liverpool 2nd leg on the Thursday before our game)
Bournemouth (A)
WBA (H)
Meanwhile Spurs have got some tricky games to come in their next 6 league fixtures and I can certainly see them dropping points despite their recent form.
West Ham (A)
Arsenal (H)
Villa (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Liverpool (A)
Man Utd (H)
Arsenal should also drop points in my opinion as they have been poor since mid-Jan. They also have an FA Cup replay sandwiched in between the Spurs and West Brom games and an away game at Barca before Everton.
Swansea (H)
Spurs (A)
WBA (H)
Everton (A) (after Barca away)
Watford (H)
West Ham (A)
Leicester actually have the kindest run of fixtures but the added pressure, teams parking the bus and Kante being out injured could all start to have it’s toll. They’ve got tough fixtures later in the season so any unexpected dropped points in the next 6 games could be crucial for us. Sadly Norwich couldn’t take their chances or hold on at the weekend but is it a sign of things to come?
WBA (H)
Watford (A)
Newcastle (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Southampton (H)
Sunderland (A)
In summary, we’ve all been saying it for months but now really is the time for the squad to step up and go on the kind of run that they’re more than capable of. The kind of run we saw in the first 5 games of this season. The title still isn’t beyond us but it will be if we don’t step up during this next period of 6 games or so. I’m still confident in the team though and backed us at 7/1 right after the Spurs defeat. Interestingly the best you can get now is 6/1 and we haven’t even played a league game since and there’s a bigger points gap now than there was when I placed my bet.
