I've lived in the south west for 5 years now. When I first moved down, I was the only city fan in my local which was populated by rags, fake scousers and a few arsenal, spurs and chelsea fans.

5 years later and I am one of 3 City fans. One of them likes City because 'all his mates were rags and he wanted to be different' (fair play), and the other claims to have a gran from altrincham. Neither of them are from Manchester or have ever been to Maine Road (or Coms)

In addition I see more and more posts on here using strange 'isms', like referring to the Premiership as the EPL, and saying 'City is' instead of 'City are'.

I have a feeling that this is the start of a transformation that I guess is inevitable, but I find it hard to stomach because I've been slating rags for it for years.

What are your thoughts on it?

Rather sit next to a "plastic" who has made a 5 hour round journey to be there than an empty seat.

unfortunately this will happen more and more as we grow the club and finances......how do you think they will fill 5,000 + corporate seats, not like we are all suddenly going to become rich and decide to invest in the expensive seats ;p

Just because someone is not local doesn't make them less of a fan, I'm not suggesting this is what you are saying and agree with your sentiment!

If that fan cheers for City and doesn't leave 10 minutes before the end of the match and slate the players

I'll be moving that way sooner rather than later.... So make that 4 City fans, but I ain't giving up the season card just yet.

They do speak wierd there I have to say. Watched the Villa game surrounded by yonners chearing on Villa coz they didn't like City!?!?!

Manchester City is a Football Club and so I think "City is" is acceptable in this respect as opposed to 'City are' in respect of the team. I think you're splitting hairs with this one.

I've had to think about this one, but I have had a few!

This is the type of thing I was considering a couple of years ago, not long after the takeover.

It's a fact of life, unfortunately. It's bound to happen - as the club looks to become more successful you will get the next generation (hopefully) growing up with City winning things. Kids growing up around the country in a situation like that will look to City as the benchmark. I wouldn't blame someone growing up miles away and looking for inspiration and great football having someone like David Silva, for instance, as a role model.

Not only that, but you see it on the club's official Facebook page a lot of the comments are from foreigners. I believe under Thaksin we set academies up in various parts of the world and the club are natually going to want to exploit markets (IE the USA tour), I'm no expert but I would imagine marketing revenues will help with these new financial rules in terms of offsetting.

Signing players from each country has an impact too. Thinking back to when Sun Jihai was with us and Li Tie (I think that was his name) was at Everton - the audience in China was reportedly huge for such games. Utd have Park and 1.2 million South Koreans have Utd credit cards.

Obviously now signing people like Dzeko will raise interest in Bosnia, where he is the focal point of the national team and a hero. The Toures will raise interest in Africa.

It will happen not only in the UK but around the world and the more I think about it, it's an inevitable consequence of success. There is nothing wrong with being proud of City's parochialism and, if it's any consolation, I think the owners will strive to keep it.
