Our Song Melodies

I see many of our younger fans objecting to the "EY-OH, Kun Aguero!" song because it is sung by an artist at the moment who isn't very good.

I'm of the opinion that all of our songs that we sing come from terrible melodies, but I'm at a loss to know the original artists.

Can somebody provide some examples?

errrm, struggling on this one. Know the Sloop John B has become one of the most used football melodies but can't think of anything we sing using that, so apart from obvious (Blue Moon) I haven't a clue

dynamite song taio cruz u mean? that was originally i throw my hands up in the air sometimes saying ayyyooo edin dzeko?

It's a Spanish song. I don't have a clue what the words are but it sounds somthing like "camparney, ooah ooah, camparney woah woah woah woah"

The Balotelli song is an Argentinian song i think, made famous by POAK in Greece if i'm not mistaken.

"The best team in the land and all the world" is from the film The Vikings, Rags used to sing it for Schmeichel.

"Blues go marching in" Saints go... a religious song isn't it?

"If you hate Man United clap your hands" is a childrens song "if you're happy and you know it".

"City til i die" is another childrens song "i'm H A P P Y".

"Oah oah ooooaaaahhhh Edin Dzeko" is from Aris fans last season. They have much better singing voices than us lot though.

I'm loving the idea for Kun's song taken from his favourite cartoon and reason behind his name "Kum Kum". Hope this takes off!

I've not got a fucking clue who are the artists of these songs though. Most of them are very lame original songs. I'm sure we could come up with 100 better efforts than most we already have if we just put our minds to it!

My basis for this, was seeing a programme years ago with all of the chants printed in them with "To the tune of...." printed underneath them. At the time, I remember thinking that many of them are from shit bands from the 70s and 80s.

Think it was about 1994-1995 season. Also remember thinking that I didn't sing most of them, so they might have been sung late 80s/early 90s.

there was 4 of us in 118 doing the kun kun song and everyone around us kept saying it was shit...naturally we did it louder :D SERG-IO - KUN- AGU-ERO :D

The Mancini song is "Volare" which is a classic Italian song made popular/famous by Dean Martin.

Unless you consider my 23 years as 'young' I don't think it's limited to a certain generation who thinks that tune is toss.

Some songs are just meant to be 'football' songs. It's not about whether the artist has any credibility.

For example; "Blue Moon" is in Grease. Not exactly a film attached to football fans, but the tune is great for football.

Well these are the songs listed in the songs section of this forum...

Blue Moon
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
(BLUE MOON - Various)

In 1963 when we fell to Division Two
The Stretford End cried out aloud
'It's the end for you Sky Blue'
Joe Mercer came
We played the game
We went to Rotherham
And won 1 0
And we were back into Division One
We've won the League we've won the Cup
We've been to Europe too
And when we win the League again
We'll sing this song to you
City City City City City
(?)

City City
The best team in the land
and all the world
(?)

And it's Manchester City
Manchester City FC
We're by far the greatest team
the world has ever seen
(Original?)

My father said to me one day "is it red or blue for you?"
and if it's red you're out the door and I won't see you no more
and then one Saturday afternoon he took me to Moss Side
He said "my son your time has come and this is a lesson in pride"
You see the scum you never run
You stand and fight your ground
and when you've won on derby day
You're sure to hear this sound
Hark now hear
The City sing
United ran away
And we will fight for ever more
Because of Derby day
(“Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” - Charles Wesley) Not sure about the "intro"

If I had the arse of a camel
and I had the wings of a crow
I'd fly over Old Trafford tomorrow

If I die in the Kippax Street woah-oh woah-oh
If I die in the Kippax Street woah-oh woah-oh

Woah-oh oh-oh oh-oh.

Build a bonfire build a bonfire
It's United's favourite song
Wish we had one just as scary
Where the fuck did we go wrong?

They say that Old Trafford's a wonderful place
But the players who play there are a fucking disgrace
They have half backs and full backs and forwards too
With their hands down their pants they have fuck all to do
The Stretford End sing the Stretford End shout
The songs that they sing they know fuck all about
But we all agree where those Bastards should be
Shovelling shit on the Isle of Capri
Toodalloo fuck Man U toodalloo fuck Man U

There's a place outside of Manchester where a bunch of wankers play
You'll find it full of cockney bastards every other Saturday
It's a place they call Old Trafford
It's no place for me or you
'Cos if you're a true Mancunian then you're sure to be a Blue

City - Manchester City
We are the lads who are playing to win
City - the Boys in Blue will never give in
Football is the game that we all live for
Saturday is the day we play the game
Everybody has to pull together
And together we will stand
Even if we're playing down at Maine Road
Or if we play a million miles away
There will always be our loyal fans behind us
To cheer us on our way
City - Manchester City
We are the lads who are playing to win
City - the Boys in Blue will never give in
Blue and white we play together
We will carry on forever more
Maybe in another generation
When other lads have come to take our place
They'll carry on the glory of the City
Keeping City in the place

We are the lads who are playing to win
City - the Boys in Blue will never give in
