Watched this Video when I came home last night after the game, and I thought about the way we implemented it,

I thought it was Particularly interesting about the way that Manuel likes one of his strikers to play out wide, anyone notice Aguero drop to the left at times, allowing silva to come central and look for the ball, giving Navas more space due to the pitch being Stretched.

At times it was like this :

Navas Silva Aguero

Dzeko

I know we've debated on here that we could do with a LW but with Jovetic, Aguero when he drops there, and Nasri, we have plenty of players who can play in this position.

Im also excited now hugely at how we can change this system, we have the players to play a 4-2-2-2, a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-3-3, the personnel we have at our disposal is so impressive.

The best thing about last night was our pressing
From Aguero and Dzeko chasing balls back to the keeper to the wide men keeping pressure on defenders
Fernandinho was everywhere in midfield and our defenders hunting in packs. We didnt give them an inch last night. It was almost like what Barcelona did when they didnt have the ball about 2-3 years ago
Very impressed

completely agree mate, with Navas Aguero and Silva we were able to press so far up the pitch, never giving Newcastle time to settle.

We certainly used the whole pitch. It was noticeable that Navas was prepared to come inside to look for the ball or drag defenders out of position.

Džeko also took his turn playing wide, including for the opening goal.

Zaba and Jesus worked together very wel, down the left and Merlin was back to his best of the title-winning season.

All-in-all, the whole team seemed to enjoy the greater freedom they now have.

I've not watched the video but I very much like the look of what he's doing. I noticed Aguero pulling out wide and it got him involved with some of the one touch passing moves. I also noticed out second goal was caused by something I discussed on here a week or two ago: a centre half stepping up to cover the holding area when a midfielder has bombed forward. I like the fact he's not got this ridiculous modern day obsession with inverted wingers. Having a right sided player on the right stretched the play hugely, meant we always had an outlet ball. It also opened the pitch up for Silva.

Although we started with a 4-2-2-2 I noticed we went 4-3-3 later in the game. I see this formation being used for tougher games. Yaya in that holding role in the 4-2-2-2 is probably the weak point. A 4-3-3 including Yaya will be much more solid.

Moyes and Mourinho will have had a dread feeling in their stomachs watching that. That's the complete team. It's got everything. And regarding the manager, how refreshing to turn up and see the team you predicted and wanted actually playing. A great sign.

I couldn't be more impressed with the new Manager.

Completely agree mate, the players looked so calm and assured of themselves, everyone knew there roles, and we weren't one dimensional.

This is going to sound like criticism, but it actually isn't. I was impressed by the intelligence Navas displayed last night. In the 1st half, Navas didn't have the speed to outpace Yanga-Mbiwa, he tried 2 or 3 times and Mbiwa denied that portion of his game, so Navas started coming inside more often to keep the play ticking over. I thought it was an excellent on the fly adaptation.

In the 2nd half, Mbiwa was switched to the other side after Taylor's red, so Navas just abused the slower fullback down his flank. It was, I think, a wonderful example of adapting to the team you are playing. As pacy as Navas is, he didn't have the beating of Mbiwa, who was going to maul him or sprint with him, so he changed it up to remain effective.

I didn't notice anything new in the way Aguero played. He has always cut in from wide positions and tried to shoot. That's a feature of his game

The biggest change last night came through the introduction of the two new players. We had the energy of Fernandinho in midfield, and the pace and width of Navas and some very good crosses from Navas

I like the new manager, but let's not endow him with magical powers or put him on a different level to his predecessor until we have seen something of significance
