Ozark (Netflix)

Can someone explain the premise of spending a shit load of money for things like carpet in the bar? Might be being thick but how does that clean the drug money?
Love this show so far
The cartel or an associate would have to own the legitimate carpet or the air conditioning business so that overpaying that company by having invoices in excess of actual goods received would put the excess cash paid into their coffers. This seems much riskier than using a cash-heavy casino business to mix legit gambling profits with dirty money.

Money laundering is the act of disguising the source of money obtained via illegal means. You take dirty money from drugs and put into the system to make it look clean. You can then buy homes, cars, anything and it looks like the money was made legitimately."
In the case of the casino, you take your daily receipts and transfer deposits to accounts. But you also take a major portion of my drug proceeds and mix it in with the casino proceeds and then make deposits. Because they are doing this continually, and as long as the cash stays roughly within ten percent of the same amount every time, nobody will be suspicious.

Ruth’s character is great because she has absolutely no filter and tells people exactly how it is at all times. Something most of us wish we could do but can’t for obvious reasons.

Started watching season 1 got half way and sonething else I was a few seasons in started back and I left it while I binged it, and need to go back tbf.
