Palermo (A) | Post Match Thread

Decent work out and some good individual performances. Certain areas look comfortable with starters nailed on, but I’m still unconvinced by the left-wing and goalkeeping slots. Some good players but nobody standing ou

Trafford was super shaky. I don't trust him in goal - but this is a one-off so maybe he had a poor performance.

Ederson was much better - but had a major fuck up that might have resulted in his sending off for a foul - a typical Ederson performance where he's great on the ball for the most part but - IMO - is a net liability for his very poor decision-making on whether or not to charge out of goal and his lose passing at times leading to unnecessary goal scoring opportunities for the opposition.

The only downside of that performance was the defence still looks wide open against the long ball which is a tactic of the lesser teams in the league like the dippers and rags
Sick of this. We were still doing it when struggling last season, leaving 2, and sometimes 1 at the back while we were attacking. Fuck that and get a solid back four with full backs concentrating on fullbacking.

Our defense is shit when faced with a ball over the top.

That said, an effective high press will cut much of that out.

I think that our press will be much better next season - at the same time I think we're screwed big time for balls over the top versus top opposition. Our defense mostly lacks pace to cover from balls over the top.

Lyon fan commented on a video of a compilation of Cherki last night saying that this is Cherki at like 10% and that he doesn’t really try in pre season.

Let's say I agree with you.

Then when does Cherki actually apply himself?

For me, Cherki was OK - but gave the ball away, way too often. Some of his attempted passes were spectacular, but none worked out.

Good workout and competitive match.

Reijnders was excellent and Cherki first half so looking forward to seeing them play.

Other than that I thought Bobb had a good game and Savinho too.

Wasn’t overly impressed with Doku and Marmoush.

Be interesting to see what line up he goes with next week but I would think Haaland, Reijnders, Cherki, Bernado are nailed on 4 out of the front 6.
My stomach is already rippling with the choices Pep has. Something we never had for 3 quarters of last season, but still finished 3rd.

We don’t seem to have learned from last season. Far too open and Palermo had chances early on to make us pay. Half decent sides like Brighton and Palace will target this

Thoroughly enjoyed that. There’s still work to do but Pep now has so many weapons and options to choose from. Cherki was unbelievable. Khusa and Nico G solid as fuck. Reijnders and Nunes were great second half. Good to see Stones back.

Personally I think Gundo/Akanji and to a lesser extent Bernardo were the weakest in terms of positive impact on the game. But Pep is going to use them if they stay. Lots of chat that second half team is the one that starts at Wolves. Am not convinced by that.

Khusanov has bags of pace.

Quite alot
We'll see. I think hat Khusanov has talent and may break into the first choice starting lineup, but he has plenty of competition.

And, Khusanov isn't at all immaculate - letting that ball bounce in the box was a major fuck-up and nearly lead to a Palermo goal... but he's young and might very well improve.

Bigger than Dias’s fuck up against Madrid when he let the ball bounce over his head? My point is no player is perfect but Khusa is clearly going to be one of the best CB’s in the world. He just needs to play. Lots of tricky decisions for Pep in a good way!

He has potential for sure.

Is he currently better than Dias to the extent that I prefer him over Dias in our starting lineup versus a top side?

No... I prefer Dias, unless we're fucked for pace on defense.
