Eccles of course! Just Eccles!!
I’m sorry Mods if I should have put this with the Olympics Paris thread but I thought (I do think now and again you just have to deal with it, sorry) it deserved a thread of its own.

I watched the opening ceremony last night on Ch4 and was impressed apart from the fact that Ch4 kept going to adverts. This meant that some countries were passed over and missed. Their athletes trained just as hard, paraded just as well as the others and deserved the same consideration and coverage. IMHO

If they had to go to commercials they could have surely arranged it better somehow.

The opening ceremony and the dancers and singers were great. Then to go to The Last Leg just put the icing on the cake. No over sentimentality, no oh aren’t we clever. Just the feeling of inclusivity and humour that they always exhibit.

Great stuff, let down by Ch4 commercialism. :-(
:-) :-)

I feel somewhat let down that this isn’t happening on the BBC. There may be some commercial reason, but having done the Olympics (rather badly) this seems an oversight.

I think it might be down to funding again. Although Ch4 usually do the Paralympics I think. However I’m not sure who got broadcasting rights for them. ;-)

Like it or not people are generally not interested save for a some condensed news packages. Sad I know but unfortunately true.
I know, it is only FOCs (Funny old Codger) like me who get into it I guess. And even I only do bits of it. :-)

But it is sport and I like my sport, even if I can't participate any more. :-)

I think the most important part of this is that as the saying goes "you can't be it if you can't see it " - how many kids around the world with all sorts of difficulties in their lives watch these games even only in part and are inspired to take up sports. You don't have to be a Paralympian but if it gets one kid in the pool or knocking a ping pong ball across the net it can only be a good - no great - thing

So far today i have watched the velodrome , wheelchair rugby and basketball , a couple of sports i dont know the name of but for the severly disabled in wheelchairs

The ads are fucking annoying again , think it puts a lot of people off watching which is a shame

Or disabled people like me that find the Paraolympics to be far more interesting and inspiring, as every athlete has actually had to overcome immense challenges to even play their particular sport, much less compete at such a high level. And the vast majority are not on any big sponsorships or endorsement deals.
