Paris 2024 Olympics Thread - 11th August (pg 430)

In the gymnastics high-bar, why do the coaches step in when the women are jumping from one to the other, and stick an arm out under them?

What will that arm do exactly if they miss the bar?
It's weird. Yes; those ladies won't weigh much more than a wringing wet hoodie, but the coach is very unlikely to be able to break their fall. Is it just for show? Also, from memory, you very rarely see it happening in the men's event. Aren't men just as likely to fuck up as the women?

There were a few spotters for the men’s high bar yesterday.

Guess it’s the athlete’s choice and if they’ve had a history of falling off.

There’s been a fair few that have fallen in these games. One Canadian yesterday fell off twice. Once because his hand guard snapped and second time because he was allowed to re-do his routine, but had injured his hand too badly.

To me, it looks mainly for show. What will the coach's reaction time need to be in the first place; a fraction of a second. Also; as light as those women are, one arm will not hold them or significantly lessen the impact of any fall if they miss the bar, or lose their grip. And they'll hardly have time to get their second arm in position

Well; there's 4 different strokes and 5 or 6 (?) different distances. And that's before you remember there's Men's and Women's events. And then the relays. That's a serious chunk of medals.
That's my point, way too many. They don't do the three legged race or sack race in the Athletics.

It might be. It’s most likely to be reassurance for the gymnasts. Don’t they all have spotters as kids learning the sport?

It’s weird because I’ve heard people repeatedly, and I mean repeatedly ad nauseam, for years and years, bang on about the fact there are only two genders. If you have a penis you are a man. I was told it was that simple. Everything else is just delusional gender ideology.

Yet here we have somebody who according to medical experts was born assigned as female with a vagina, but with XY chromosomes, and now we’re being told by the same people that she is a man? So we’re just abandoning the whole vagina standard now are we, because it’s convenient?

Some people really cannot win can they? It’s almost like gender is actually quite nuanced and complex and stupid broad statements about penises and vaginas are actually totally useless platitudes.

Intersex are a minute portion of the trans athletes
So let’s say ok we allow intersex born with a vagina even if they’ve got high testosterone levels and male chromosomes

What do you feel about the ones smashing women’s records in numerous events with cocks swinging between their legs ?

What manoeuvres those girls do on the floor (don't, just don't!) just defy gravity. You'd look back at what Comanechi (sp?) and Korbut did, back in the days of b&w telly, and it will appear very meh in comparison.

Biles is just a freak of nature in the same vein as Kev, Phelps, Vonn, Jordan, Ali, and Williams.

Absolute domination, able to do what almost no one else on earth can when she is on it, which is more often than most.
