Paris 2024 Olympics Thread - 11th August (pg 430)

GB Schedule
2nd August

Another brilliant day of sport, there should be more medals, wish I’d booked the day off. We should have our eyes on gold in the Lightweight Double Sculls, Imogen Grant and Emily Craig look a class apart. The athletics starts properly, look out for the 1500m in the morning, 3 heats, all 3 absolutely stacked with talent, there may be a few casualties given the size of the fields. Look out for Emma Wilson in the windsurfing, she’s absolutely dominated the field, she’s the only sailor to automatically qualify for the final. Keely Hodgkinson starts her bid for gold in the 800m, Jemma Reekie and Phoebe Gill are running fast as well. Beth Shriever is the BMX racing too, she’s dominated her field in the quarterfinals, I hope she gets the gold.

Where do you think he is in the overall tennis World.
He was unfortunate not to have won more due to being around at the same time as Nadal, Federer and Djokovic but you could make that same argument for those 3 as well.
There are only 4 players to have won all 4 slam events but I think he is behind Borg, McEnroe Sampras and a few others.

Yes I agree I’d put him behind them as well but still aware he probably had stiffer prolonged competition than them
But as it is I’d be guessing so I agree he’s behind those and the like of Becker Lendel Agassi Connors

I struggle with the elevating of sportsman because he/she is the flavour of the day mate.

The media always have a new beau lined up, for example Mbappe will go down as the best football player ever when he's not even in the top 20 in reality, smoking mirrors.
Smoke AND mirrors!

So are we cheering for Argentina in the football this afternoon? They play France and have Alvarez but France have Otamendi and someone who was once registered with us but I don't remember him Geronimo Rulli.
I'm sticking with Argentina and Alvarez. :-)
Are you on the sherry early.
All 3 play for Argentina.
How could you forget Otamendi?

Come on mate don’t insult me to think I’ve been taken in by emotion and hype
I’ve not watched any tennis or even know what Murray has won ? Singles doubles I honestly don’t know mate lol
I saw the headline on the thread and started thinking about it and that if you think about it “ doesn’t come close to top 10 was a bit dismissive “

Just having bit of nonsense chit chat really as a break from the other threads lol

… Sampras
