Opening Ceremony on Friday. Starts at 17:45 (BST) on BBC1.

BBC and Discovery+ have the rights this year, everything will be aired on Eurosport.

It's nice to have it back in Europe, easier to keep up with it. Great Britain & Northern Ireland finished 4th in Tokyo, hopefully a similar performance here as well.

As usual I'll keep the schedules posted on here, especially the GB athlete schedule.

The actual Olympics kicks off earlier than Friday.

Thanks in advance for keeping this thread up to date @MCFC1993

It's a shame Sam Reardon didnt get back to fitness to run in the trials and make the 400m relay team, running 44.7 and taking a second plus off his best after an injury hit season is phenomenal.

Louie Hinchcliffe could well be a fairytale story if he can keep up his progression and make the 100m final and maybe sneak into medal contention. Some achievement to be the first European to win the NCAA 100m championships. And he apparently turned trials down as a kid at City, whilst playing golf off 0.70 handicap.

What is certain and makes the Olympics the greatest sporting event is there will be someone we have never heard about who will capture our hearts and win gold with the support of a nation. And we will all become experts in Taekwondo and Canoe Slalom again.

Really looking forward to the kayak cross.

Bring it on!

This Eurosport thing can fuck off. How is it not treated like the World Cup and mandated that it all has to be on terrestrial TV?

I watched a couple of their broadcasts on a dodgy stream last time and it was shocking. The commentators didn't even know the rules of the sport and were clearly reading it off a cheat sheet, not even trying to hide the fact. They had a co-commentator, but it was just another presenter, not someone who'd actually done the sport.

Agreed, London 2012 they had to show everything, BBC had 15-20 different streams every day, obviously because it was over here, it should be mandated. How else will they inspire the next generation otherwise.

great 12 hrs of running and swimming every day on bb1 while hoping some actual sports are shown on bbc2
