Patrick Roberts eligible to play against us

Just Had a nosey on TalkCeltic.net forum for a gander on how the Celts feel on drawing us. I couldn't help notice
they have around 150 pages on Patrick. Most are raving about the 'bhoy'. Seems like they would all like to buy him off us. Will be interesting watching him play against us. I realise that the SPL is not a top league, but if he his progressing well, I just hope we don't overlook him, especially as Pellegrini signed him.

Take a look at how they are creaming themselves over his skills

Would he be able to play against us as the contracted club? Surely there's a bit of a conflict of interest?

Yes he's allowed. There was a big deal over Courtois playing against Chelsea while he was on loan at Atleti and he was allowed. Something about not being allowed to influence the game by preventing a player from playing against parent club.

believe his father insisted on it being in his loan deal and that Txiki was fully supportive of it for the experience it will give him. surely a conflict of interest for the lad if he managed to pop up with a last minute chance to win the game.

Conflict of interest to a point if the lad is not 100% professional. I find more conflict of interest when clubs are dictating who plays against them and not, it opens up so many possible questionable possibilities; so a simple rule across the board like this i think is the best way. You loan them then they are fully loaned, the parent club should have no more input on such matters.

This should be a great audition for the lad. He's skillful and clever with the ball and given this chance to shine I'd expect him to really put a good performance in.

There is no conflict of interest. I've supported City all my life but if was lucky enough to be able to play pro football, City send me out on loan & I get a last min chance to dump them out of the Champs League, they are gone.

Roberts' problem v City is likely to be getting on the ball in a decent position to influence the game. A 10-2 score over the two legs with him scoring 2 worldies would be nice.

If he scores a consolation for them would be nice for him to get a clap from us

Do you think Pellegrini had much or any involvement in signing Roberts?

He held his own against Barca in preseason, I try and watch him play every chance I get. There's no chance Celtic can keep him as some of their fans may wish, he's already shown he's one of the most skilled players in the SPL, the question will be if he can get in the City team next year or if his potential is only as high as playing in a mid-table EPL side.

Personally I would not even want to play against City if I was in that kind of situation. BUT it is easy to say these things now that that is 10000% hypothetical. how would I really feel who knows.

now that would be brilliant

By all means they can play him, and I'd expect him to give his all.

But if they play him, I cant see us sending any more up to their dump going forward.

Random Bodgers is on Sky news praising us for upholding our beliefs and putting the player's development first. He really was most complimentary and painted us in a very good light. I was waiting for a sly dig at us, but he seemed genuine. Perhaps the Candlepool brainwashing is wearing off ...
