He used to do the home match summarising with Ian Cheeseman on BBC Radio Manchester until other commitments stopped this. Recently been back on the station this season at home games. The man is a legend. Tells it how it is and a true Blue. Possibly this might work against him getting on the likes of Sky,BT or MOTD. They wouldn't want anyone on there who is as articulate and knowledgeable about the game with an affinity to City. What would the viewer's in Essex,Devon and Singapore make of that!
I always get a bit emotional when I watch Lakey and hear him speak.
What happened To him was a tragedy. Such a cultured player who literally had the world at his feet and would have been one of the best English players ever, no doubt. The tragedy though is as much about who it happened to. A nicer, more articulate, more decent and honest young man it would be hard to find. I know he suffered with depression for a time afterwards and understandably so, but for him to come back from all that and remain humble, not bitter, and still so accessible to City fans is a triumph.
Part of me would give up all that's happened the last few years to see him not have suffered that injury and its consequences.
A complete gentleman and for me the best modern day blue.

Lol, unfortunately I listen, get angry then want to write angry letters lol. Bit good fir my health.In an ideal world that would be the case but I very much doubt it. Not for a very long time. Sky still pander to their "Big Four" of whom only one of them is in the CL this season. I usually watch City's away CL games in my local club. I'm deaf as a post so can't hear the commentary in there. Just got a fire stick and my eldest son set it up for me and was able to watch the Barca game at home on Wed with the sound up! How I regretted that having to listen to the patronising Ian Darke and Steve McPointy! For BMG I'll go back to watching in the club with no commentary!

An absolutely top bloke and his passion for City, despite the shoddy way he was treated, shines through. Remember that interview with that Dutch reporter, who was trying to goad him about our obscene wealth when we won the title in 2012? Top stuff.
As to his ability as a player, I know there are some Blues on here who claim that all he had was potential and that he was never tested at the highest level, but I personally disagree with that on observation alone. He had it all. Strong, tall, quick and a swaggering elegance in possession. Was it Howard Kendall who said Lakey would have gone on to captain Englandfor years to come? I couldn't disagree. He was magnificent in the 5-1 and I remember going to a midweeker at Highbury once and having to sit in the home end and watch City get battered 4-0. Tellingly, the gooner I was sat next to, in between scoffing at how bad we were, raved about Lakey, who was right back that night, from start to finish. Perhaps a crueller blow for the club even than losing Colin the King, given their respective ages at the time of their injuries.

Not a fan then ?He must have mistaken Gary Fleming as Paul Lake then as the former played right back in that game, and it was 3pm on a Saturday. The type if injury if he had can often occur again in the opposite knee if a successful comeback is made, and player who do come back such as Richard Edghill, normally lose quite a bit. If lake hadn't been injured that night doing very little, there is a high chance it would have happened sooner or later.
The captain of England stuff is in the realms of Kinky better than Marradona, and both Kinky and Lakey played mainly in division 2 for us, so it is hard to bench mark.
