Paul Lake has an interview on Talkshite tonight. I remember one of their blokes last week saying that Lake's biography was one of the best he had read, so hopefully we'll hear some positivity on the City front from Talkshite.

Re: Paul Lake on Talkshite

Unfortunately there's very little 'positive' about City in the book. About the fans, yes, but the club itself no.

No doubt talkshite's presenters will try to form some magical link between the Swales era and the present day.

Re: Paul Lake on Talkshite

He was at my sons school presenting the boys sports awards a couple of weeks ago.

If he's slagged the people involved with City back then it's fully deserved! Plighted our club from one of, if not, the, very best in the country to an abomination that was a shadow of it's former self. I was born in 1982 so couldn't really do anything about it but how you older fans sat back and did nothing until 20 years too late to get them clowns out of our club I'll never know! I blame you older fans almost as much as I do that shite board for our demise!

Re: Paul Lake on Talkshite

I've read the book, and the people who get the grief fully deserve it (Swales particulary); we're talking about a man's whole life being messed about because of a complete lack of interest, care and for the sake of trying to save a few quid. I remember thinking at the time that something didn't quite add up with his continuous breakdowns etc... there's no way that he received anything like the care (or emotional support) that he should have. The fact that he was our superstar player with a glistening future ahead of him makes the whole thing all the more tragic.
There's also a lot of positives in the book. It's clear that he simply adores the club, fans and the way he talks about the old guard - Ken Barnes, Glynn Pardoe and 'Skip' is very moving - it's little wonder that that group of youngsters were so close given their superb grounding they received at the club.
The book also tells of his many achievemenets - clearly being made captain was a huge deal to him. I'm delighted that he's back at the club.
No matter who we sign in any transfer window, bringing Lakey home will always be Cook's best signing as far as I am concerned. Just don't tell those who believe that we'e lost our soul since the takeover.

Haha you can tell you were not around at the time with the above stupid comment, most clubs of that era were run in much the same way, ask most older fans of other clubs, there wasnt the focus on football like there is today, the TV coverage obviously wasnt the same, hooliganism was rife, try to start a protest and the old bill would be on you batons out in a flash

Ha ha!! Now if only we'd have had football's answer to Che Guevara with us at the time - shame you weren't around really. Having said that you don't exactly strike me as being ideal counter revolutionary material if this is how you think......

" East Stand, Level 1, Block 105. I'm on row P pretty much bang on the half way line. I've sat in other areas and think I've got one of the very best views in Premier League football. I sit there because, even though I'm an enthusiastic vocal fan, I don't think our vocal areas are worth being part of to sacrifice my view"

That interviewer needed to shut the hell up.

Glad i wasn't the only one who thought that then.

I reckon Paul Lake spoke for less than five minutes in an hour long segment. Poor bloke could hardly get a word in edgeways. What's the point of inviting someone in to talk about their book and then interrupting them every 5 seconds with some pointless aside like, 'Paul my big fat eyes are welling up when you talk about the injury. Can you have fat eyes? Do eyes put on weight? Perhaps one of the listeners will know, there's bound to be something on the internet about it. Fat Eyes was a Jamacan record label you know. They released some banging tunes'.

As I mentioned on the 'autobiography' thread, I wrote the review of the book in the current edition of 'When Saturday Comes'. I was given a pre-publication copy several weeks ago and I've read it through a couple of times now and I am simply at a loss at how a football club could treat a player like this.

I won't go into detail as many of you are clearly about to read the story for yourselves, but the club's administration at the time do come out of this very badly - and rightly so. I felt angry at the club for the sheer incompetence and inadequacy that they displayed throughout this sorry affair; God knows how Paul Lake felt.

Some people remain sceptical about the Abu Dhabi money that has flowed into the club, but if the new investment means that the mediical facilities are up to a standard where players can expect a decent level of treatment and not have their careers ruined by those in whom they are meant to trust then that alone should be a cause of celebration.

Couldn't agree more, I switched off, after about 20 mins, just after the Spurs fan interviewer (I really am not interested in his name) told his story about having to pay to get into Maine Rd twice to see Spurs. Jesus, Lakey probably said about 30 seconds worth by this time, But at least the lack of info on the book means I will buy it.
Anyone else at Middlesborough that night when Lakey crumpled to the floor? heartbreaking to see.

anyone got a link for lakey's interview on radio 5 last night? can't find it on the bbc iplayer.
