Paul Power - Tales of Blue

Think he surprised a few Everton fans with his performances in title winning season with them. Remember scoring a softish goal for them at Maine Road but not celebrating, a true blue and a useful, versatile player, our decline between him becoming a regular to him leaving must have hurt.

"Flower Power" - was the perfect nickname! Didn't like him in the late 70's as he was non-flash and he grew on me in 1981 before becoming associated with disaster. Seems a nice chap though. Love the way these players had better things to do than remember the trivia of their playing days (as I do!)

Paul's 'Tales of Blue' was a good watch. He didn't remember some things correctly but you can't criticise players for that, fans are the obsessives, and more likely to be correct. However, when he mentioned being subbed for the introduction of Colin Bell versus Newcastle (his emotional comeback game), he stated that the second half had already begun when the change was made. I know it's a long time ago but is this how it happened ? My memory has Colin coming out last with the team for the re-start. Can anyone remember for sure ?

No idea. Funny how facts often become myths. A number of the old team say in these interviews or books "Big Mal sold Dennis Tueart, Joe Royle, Mike Doyle etc" or (as Paul P) "Mal bought Kazzy Deyna" when these kind of things preceded him but fit the story of bad sells and worse buys. Paul seems to have forgotten Dennis Tueart was there under John Bond (as he was for about 2-3 years). As we have said big difference between player recall and obsessive-fan recall. I'll get back into me pajamas.

Dont forget tueart being here under bond was his second spell.
Though it was book that sold him to cosmos

Book did sell him in early 1978. He came back about Feb 1980 and left after relegation. Was looking in top form when he snapped his achilles in late 1981.

Always interesting to hear views from old players, especially ones I watched a lot. My City going days essentially started in the 74-75 season just before Power broke into the City squad. Yet in the space of about 10 years basically to when he left we went from a team of star players that should really have done better than they did to the shambles of relegation. I would have loved to have heard his perspective about playing through that decline and why it happened.

I did not realize how good a player he was until he went to Everton.

He was superb for them and a class act on and off the field.

Another of our local lads that suffered shameful abuse from our own fanbase.
