I was 12 and my friend played me a cassette of "trigger cut" off Slanted and Enchanted and my life changed. Just like that I was thrust into the world of "indy" rock. Back when the term actually had some kind of meaning. I threw away all of my metallica tapes and went and bought "Slanted and Enchanted" and "Crooked Rain".....two landmark albums that changed the landscape of the american indy rock scene. They took the noise from Sonic youth and Swell maps, the obtuseness from the Fall, threw in some pop melodies and created something entirely their own, blurring the lines of sincerity and irony all the while.
