I got a new(reconditioned) pc about 2 months ago. It's been back to the shop about 5 times. Mozilla keeps crashing and then after a while the pc crashes. At first they said it was a software conflict and it was something I was downloading. They would reload windows and it would work ok for another few days and then crash again. Finally they have said it is a hardware problem and on Saturday they replaced the motherboard and hard drive. Halfway through a post this morning and mozilla crashed again. I started using IE and the PC crashed.
I'm getting really pissed off with it. I don't want to take it back to the same place because they are obviously incompetent, any ideas would be welcome.

Stoney could be anything mate, when you say crashes does it just turn off, freeze, blue screen?

Sometimes I get bluescreen, other times it just reboots for no apparent reason

could do with getting the blue screen error message, if your pc is set to save one it should be in c:\windows\minidump. Can you have a look for any files in this folder! If there is any open the most recent one and send me the details

Cheers mate, when I get home I'll have a look.

Sounds like a memory problem. Get them to change the DIMM's on the board, or to run an application called MEMTEST with one DIMM in at a time. Just with it blue screening or crashing when you open up a high end memory dependable app (Firefox can hit 200mb) could be hitting a faulty sector on the DIMM's. Only other issue is that it is a overheating problem. Download and run Speedfan and see what your temps are at: -

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.almico.com/speedfan437.exe" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.almico.com/speedfan437.exe</a>

Another useful tool is ATITool which will allow you to monitor the temperature of your graphics card

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/</a>

I reckon it's memory though. You deserve a cider after all that reading stony!!!

It won't let me read the file, says it doesn't know how to open it.

Best thing to do. if it DOES blue screen, there should be an access violation code on the blue screen.

It will be a random number for example : 0x03798273

Write it down and post, it will seriously help with the cause. It could be overheating, graphics, memory.
