When I first log on it's ok but after a short time it freezes when I try to change to another site the little circle just goes round and nothing happens. As you can guess I'm a bit of a technophobe and would appreciate any help.

could you tell us how old your pc is pls also do this "ctrl + Alt + Delete" and start taskmanager, click processes tab and sort by memory usage and show us the top 3-4 memory hungry programs your running.

Clearly, you dont give Shit about the Status of your System. So ppl on the Web ave made a few Programms like:

Reg Organizer
Auslogics BoostSpeed
TuneUp

who do the work for you.

So try to find one of them. Install, run the Checks nd Repairs. Live without freezing.

That's a bit harsh, how do I take care of the status of my system?. I don't understand the tech side not because I don't give a shit but because I only know the basics. I'll try the things you suggest. Thanks for your help.

ok internet explorer is your issue here.

What you need to do first is download "firefox" much better web browser.

That much cpu usage is worrying though, if you trust me mate get "teamviewer" its a free app that will allow me to see your pc whilst you are there you can kill it anytime you like.

The reason i say this is it could be a few things doing this but it will take me forever to diagnose via a forum. It will allow me to fix shit much much faster for you.

If you are around pm me, ill walk you through it then you can watch me fix your pc live.

-- Tue Jun 07, 2011 9:17 am --

ok internet explorer is your issue here.

I wont elaborate on that as that is the user in questions decision whether or not to divulge such info, its nothing big or weird just principle :)

My fee...a couple of pints :)

While we are on the subject can someone give me advice also?

My laptop keeps crashing when I play any graphics. Just a few mins of youtube for instance and whrrr crash. I have to scandisc and reboot, the fans work endlessly, pretty much all the time.

I've had the machine for about 5 years and it runs on windows XP pro.

Is it time for a new one?

If so any recommendations?

ATI VGA? look on temperature while playing vids, then post here.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. TBH I haven't a clue regarding ATI or VGA and where to read the temperature, I'm equally clueless. I don't think there is anything in Windows task manager. The machine crashes any time it's put under any workload.
A few months ago I updated the drivers and chips. I didn't notice any problem straight away, I wonder if this could be the problem?

Cheers.

5 year old laptop fans always on have you checked if there's a build up of dust inside? Could be that simple, . Check out YouTube how to clean a laptop out with a can of compressed air.

1. Dont open your Laptop.
2. VGA means Video Graphic Accelator, ATI is a Manfucator. But your Laptop will have an intergrated one. Motherboard installed.

Lets go like this.

Remove all Software you dont need, Remove also Codecs you may have installed. Remove Adobe Flash. Everything whats somehow related with Video or Display.

After that Install "Everest Software" type it in google, it that Software you will find an Sensor section where you can read all speciafications of your Laptop and all temperatures of it.

Post Graphic Card Model, MotherBoard and all Temperatures (Memory, Graphics, Disk etc)

Or Just Backup everything, nd try a System reinstall.
