It's happened a couple of time over the last couple of days. The power light is still on and it looks like the monitor is unplugged except that it isn't. The power light stays on both the monitor and the pc.
It's just happened again and for the first time I was sat here. It sounded like all the power just drained and then a popping sound like a fuse blowing. It booted up ok though.
Any of our computer nerds have any ideas?

sounds like your psu mate, make sure you are using a surge protector whilst you get this fixed.

No blue screen of death showing a physical memory dump ? just boom of right ?

Every time I've heard of this happening it's because the computer is overheating.

Assuming it's a desktop take off the covers and give it a good clean out. There's also probably some CPU monitor stuff you can fine online.

Fans working fine and there are no covers on it. I took them off to clean it out last year and couldn't be arsed putting them back on.

My old PC was the same before my PSU gave up.

Also, PC cases are designed to improve airflow (if the fans are positioned correcly) so i'd put the side back on if you're worried about overheating.
