Pedro Porro

when did we go from youth and reserve players who never broke into the first team being never referenced with clubs to now being classed as ex players

Porro isn't an ex-city player in the normal sense, he was an academy player who never made it, same as sancho, I don't recall Steve Macauley ever being called an ex city player in his fleetwood or crewe days

so the ex player curse is redundent on this one
A fine youth team player indeed was Steve Macauley!

Porro was never an academy player. He never played for our academy.

He's a former City player in the way Larry Kayode, Aaron Mooy, Jack Harrison, Geronimo Rulli and Mix Diskerud (amongst many others) are. Doubt they ever set foot in Manchester. Essentially what people call a CFG player.

Sancho did, at least, play for the club's youth teams. As did Macauley.

so still not an ex city player in the real sense of the word

If only there was a 'Pedro Porro' thread in the transfer forum.....you'd think a mod would know better :-)

Sounds like a decent payday for us but I am just wondering why we didnt exercise the buy back clause, flip him straight to Spurs and pocket about £20m. It would have been a bit hard on Sporting but business is business.

He wasn't an academy player, he was signed from Girona's senior squad after CFG bought them out. More accurate to say he was a CFG development signing put on our books so we could bank any profit generated.

You are assuming Spurs would be happy to do that deal and encourage that practice in future. I doubt they would see that as in their long term interests even if smitten with the player.

Probably some regulations that restrict a player moving "twice" in one window.

City probably got similar money to step aside, who knows?

The sell on fees too are normally an overage (unlike some assume the full fee) and very often renegotiated before a sale.
