Stick leather trousers on it and rename it the Emma Peel statue. Job done.Let’s get it torn down, there’s nothing great about this man or his family so I can’t see the point of his statue still standing if it offends. It also gives us a great opportunity to just nuke the whole of Piccadilly Gardens and start again - awful part of town. As for new, more appropriate statues in their place, we could have great black men like Pele, Trevor McDonald, Frank Bruno or Lenny Henry.
That's why the statue of Pele should stay. He's universally admired.Agree- but I stayed away from football cos whether it’s red or blue nob ends are bound to vandalise.
Well - whoever goes up in its place is subjective. I’m just saying the first step is to remove it.
You could go manc centric and put Tony Wilson up. But I was thinking of great Black Men/Women - ideally British ones.
knowing Manchester council they’ll probably put up a 50ft Karl Marx statue or a bronze bust of Pat Karney.
For his work on erectile dysfunction adverts he definitely deserves a large oneThat's why the statue of Pele should stay. He's universally admired.

Not one person in Bristol gave a fuck about the pigeons mate. PLM.Don't see the point in statues, apart from giving the pigeons something else to shit on.
The Robert Peel down sunnybank better call the troops in.
I did a project on Robert Peel at school in the 80s, funny how none of the teachers didn't pull me to one side and said hang on son this geezer is a bit of a racist and in 30 years time he'll have statues of himself pulled down by the brrap brrap young tings of the UK who have decided that a figure from the eighteen hundreds is directly connected with the killing of a black man by white cops in America.
Ah makes you proud to be British.
I can't ever remember doing anything about slavery at my school, not one lesson of it but surely we must have touched on it at some point. In my school, I remember one day devoted to slavery as a lesson.
Out of 6 years?
If I racall in school the 5 years I did history we learnt about the boer wars, russian revolution, the boxer rebellion, opium wars and rise of communist china., stone age britain and the romans. With a little bit about the vikings.
So I did learn a bit about the british empire fucking about in south africa and china and a footnote about the crimean war as a prelude to the russian revoluiton.
We actually did a few days about the slave routes in RE when covering about missonaries and the spread of catholocism, basically they made us watch roots, and that was it

The nearest thing we did connected with anything of a racial nature was read To Sir, With Love in English.
