Penalty Taker

Who should take penalties if Haaland is not on the pitch?

Let's not forget that Mahrez took the job that no one really wanted and have done a good job considering how appalling our record was from the spot
Well it was certainly a low bar to aim at (no pun intended) that's for sure. Galling to see when donkeys like Milner can bang them in for fun, for like a decade.

Mahrez's record WAS poor, but then he stopped taking them and I think he's come back as a different player.

He waits a lot longer before kicking the ball, and is more relaxed. Since becoming the main penalty taker he'd scored nine in a row, prior to that West Ham miss.

Thinking about penalties, thinking about how I every single time feel we'll probably miss, thinking about how confident Haaland comes across in his interview with Neville (at 1:46). Why doesn't Pep decide to make Haaland our primary penalty taker? Is it really up to the players on the pitch to make that decision? On which basis then? Authority?

Haaland's got a good record (27 scored, 2 missed), and any added goals to his tally would be fantastic for not just him individually, but also for the club (winning games, increased exposure, awards etc).

Watching (for example) Mahrez (22 scored, 9 missed) tee up the ball with Haaland standing around in the background is infuriatingly hard to understand.

Haaland is 27-2, which is more than acceptable.

Mahrez is 22-9, which is poor. He also seems increasingly likely to miss depending on the importance.

The suggestion that Mahrez will take them if they’re both on the field is laughable.

Gundogan is 15-2, which is acceptable as a back up.

Or just sign Ivan Toney and bring him on for pens, like an NFL kicker.
