Pep Guardiola - 2019/20 Performances

I think now is the wrong time for an inquest into pep.
Let's wait until the end of the season - whenever that may be - and judge him then

There seems to be little or no middle ground with our Pep. Two legendary seasons and one embarrassing shitshow. Last night was an opportunity badly missed and has only served to heap more pressure on him and the team. Only winning the lottery of the revised Champions League tournament now can prevent him making it 2-2.
After 11 domestic defeats this season I don’t think it can be denied that his primary approach has been sussed to some extent. Lesser teams and lesser coaches have worked out how to play against us. Low block, ride your luck and counter with pace. They know that if they score first then the numbers prove we rarely have the guile or grit to come back.
If you don’t evolve, you become extinct. As soon as you stand still you are letting others catch up and pass you.
Possession for its own sake, an apparent mistrust of pace, height and physical power and filling a dressing room with compliant choirboys rather than warriors who might challenge the group are all issues we need to address. Being good and being quick or strong aren’t mutually exclusive - as the rats down the M62 have sadly demonstrated.

I don't disagree with this. Before the break, yes Laporte and Sane injuries were big issues.
But after, there really isn't an excuse.

Hope for a big response VS Madrid

I disagree with this, a) because we’ve finished 2nd over 4th this time and b) Pep’s retained the PL and has won comfortably more than Pellers did, he’s given himself some comfort room for a poor season, next season is what he should be judged on.

I support Manchester City Football Club which is bigger than any individual, now matter who they are. MCFC was here before Pep and it will be here afterwards. The cultists and clappers will always disagree but is only fair and right that his performance this season is scrutinised objectively. The numbers don’t lie

Time for a mini rebuild with Pep at the helm.

Nothing last forever and this team has been fantastic but its time for some fresh blood whilst we say goodbye to a few.

Perfectly normal.

Agree with this. We are paying the price for a poor transfer window and not being ruthless from a position of strength last summer, but better late than never. The manager’s contract issue could do with being resolved sooner rather than later

Yep but we need to be more pro active in the future and sign upgrades on the positions that can be easily be improved rather than acting everything is perfect when we win stuff. This also helps prevent these mini rebuilds every 2-3 years and maintains the freshness thus likely to keep momentum.

Basically we need to more a lot more ruthless than we are.

Absolutely this

We are becoming stale in attack, to predictable. We always seem to want to walk the ball into the net, trying to play another pass when we're 8 yrds
out. Lets shoot, but they seem afraid to do it. Freddy Mercury's lad over at the swamp shoots every chance he gets and hes getting rave reviews for it.
Silva should not off played last night after wednesday and it seems to me he's the first name on peps team sheet as part of his farewell.
71% possession means fuck all if you get beat. The rags at the Etihad earlier in the season was yet another game like last nights.
Opposite teams aren't arsed about how they beat us just as long as they do. All in all an embarrassing result and performance especially have the
week we have just have. Pep stood up for us in the week, but now they're all laughing at us.
My phone didn't stop last night from gloating rags the twats. come on chelsea soften this blow for us.....please

Stubborn Pep has to get back to a tighter setup like end of last season.
He must see that.
We are doing the same mistake time and again and offer worse teams the easy way to beat us.

Pep was too nice and humble towards Arteta last night who instead was giddy and aggressive enough to kick our arses and loudly pushed his players by "Yayayayayayaya!!" all over the pitch.
Pep stayed there and swallowed it. Too nice in a semi final. He seemed to be helpless.

Looking forward I expect Pep to lead in a more clear and exposed way. Obviously this team needs more leadership. There will be a lot of uncertainty in the team right now and he has to be the calm rock, the fundament for the players. We have to be in attacking mode for the CL, not favourites.

And please Pep, don't talk much now but keep your mouth shut, work with your players and let them talk on the pitch. Hope we and HE learned our/his lesson last night.

Hahahahaha yes, you’ve rumbled me there Mrs Columbo. Will come as quite the surprise to the many who know me on here, mind.
Cant stay, off to watch my Best of Stan Boardman DVD before shooting a load of fireworks at my garden shed in Bootle while humming Ferry Cross the Merrrrsey

He needs to commit to a new contract to give us some sustainability.
That’s my only issue with him as it stands.
The idea that his management is in any way up for questioning is a bit of a joke tbh.

And if we win in Portugal , does that change your opinion.

That’s what I said. He’ll be the first to admit his first season was utter shit, albeit with some extenuating circumstances. Second and third amazing. This one is in the balance. Winning at least one of the two remaining cups we were prioritising would make it a good season. That is why last night was such a missed opportunity. It has heaped pressure onto success in a revised CL which is always a knockout lottery anyway, probably even more so now given the shortened format.
A return of a league cup and 18-20 points off the league is not what I’d call a good season for this squad and manager. We might have killed for that a decade ago but we aren’t a small time outfit anymore. York Away-ism is a tinpot mentality. Our standards and expectations are significantly higher nowadays - and that’s a good thing.
