I agree to the point that Pep might better did it himself and that he doesn't plan panic times ;)
Anyway, theory and practice. Whatever the plan was, it didn't work. Just a bad day I hope.

I also missed more shots from outside the box but many didn't trust their own skills.
Laporte was close once though. Shame.
Didn't see this till after I posted. I was wanting Laporte to shoot there as well.
I concur, we should be scoring more from these types of shots, and if the two outside front men didn't bring it in so narrow all the time, there would be more room for passing and shots.

That's the same reason we go back to the keeper from advanced positions, to make the opposition push out and give us more space to attack again.
that's what you'd think, then we go up field slow it down again, then they regroup again, rinse and repeat. when we do get the ball behind their players we should be making diagonal or through passes to the front and drive to the net, not pass sideways and back again waiting for the perfect goal.
What's that saying? Don't let the perfect get in the way of the good. Has anyone noticed that the type of goals people on here say we should be scoring are the ones scored against us?

The answer to so many of our problems this season have stared us in the face and Pep has looked the other way. We are so much better when one or both Foden / Bernardo plays with one of KDB or Silva. I really wish he’d played this team on Saturday.

I love this video. I also find it interesting in the HT team talk in the derby where He said ‘how are you going to react when they disallow a goal vs Liverpool’. Can even see into the future our manager

more shots should come from the middle area, 18-25 yards out 6-7 feet high with Kev or whoever blasting on net. These can get through, get deflected or spilled by the keeper anywhere. This is making something happen rather than our outside guys trying to dribble through half the team getting tackled or having a pass blocked.
What we need to do in these situations is have Kev move to the left and put in a curler from just outside the box like the 2nd and 5th goal against Norwich. I felt Mahrez would do this from the right side like Robben used to for Bayern, but he really hasn't done it enough. Perhaps Torres could add to this from the left as well.

but they should be doing this anyway, i was thinking of something new against the parked bus, we should be pounding shots from just outside, instead of easy to clear crosses from the sides, or better yet drive to the net quicker before they set up while we pass it sideways and back.

or sign Andy Carroll ;-)

the more i compare pep's bayern, city and barcelona's teams im beggining to realize that barcelona's edge was that they improvised a lot more on attack. city and bayern are very well oiled machines although a bit predictable due to the lack of freedom from positional play/individual brilliance.

Like, Sterling, Jesus and Mahrez are very good players but i wouldnt consider any of them all timers, i know theres not a lot of players out there that are but realistically with pep's style and having to face parked buses week in and week out i think city needs a bit more to be dominant in england and europe.

Thats where i disagree on pep's hesitance on playing Foden, as i see him as an world class talent that brings the flair and improvisational ability that city needs up front. Of course, nobody should expect for him to be the new messi but i think he could be one of the missing pieces.

At barcelona pep had the advantage of coaching players that had been drilled in the barça way already, so guys like xavi, iniesta, busquets, messi could do advanced reads with ease, while at city only de bruyne and silva have that ability (bernardo and rodri are able too). Basically, City is a very well oiled standard tunes jazz band, specialized on reading music but not on improvising, while peak barça were alsovery well drilled but improvised like a master jazzman.

Im in no position to say that that happens because the players are not good enough or not capable of providing that flair and criativity in the final third, or if its just peps becoming tactically more and more orthodox. But that is my opinion, i think that pep needs either to acquire a top top player upfront or try to continue to improve what he has while giving Foden a bit of a free reign to explode and go at defenders. peace

Will he sign a new contract? I dont know who we can replace him with that is at that high level of coachning.
How many trainers in the world have the ''I really wanna train under xxx'' aura? Zidane and Klopp?
Feels like Wenger was the last coach to be at a top club (if you wanna count arsenal as a top club) for so long time, next too Ferguson.
I hope the sheik give Pep a offer he can't refuse.

Agreed and the only one I can see filling his shoes is Luis Enrique.

Those first 45 minutes were grim. Don't know why he always the one to blink first in the Champions League when we've got the best team in Europe. Happened in the Bernabau until Real scored and he was forced into playing a normal system, along with the horror shows at Spurs and Liverpool away.

Hopefully the next stage being one legged ties might not phase him as much.

I somewhat agree. We were too tentative early on. We were expecting an onslaught but they were happy to play a composed game and not overextend themselves.

Even if the false 9 was the right idea it was a tall order asking Foden to be the guy to do it too.

Got it spot on after half time though. I think the Bernardo sub was very well timed.

Guardiola has now won 29 Champions League knockout matches, more than any other manager in the competition's history.

So happy with this guy last night. He resisted the urge to play Mahrez and we were so much better for it. Energy, pace, fluidity is how we'll win the CL. Mahrez isn't that guy. I have waited for us to play exactly how we did last night and I sincerely hope it sticks. With the front 3 working like that no-one can touch us.

So if City win the CL will Pep leave or stay and build his own history/legacy?

Sadly either way I can only see him adding a further one year max two to his contract. His work takes such a toll on him both mentally and physically he'll need a break with his family before maybe looking at International management or a director of football back home. I'm sure he doesn't need the money but as a club we must do everything to keep him for the next 2/3 years to bed in some of the young recruits. He's said he's happy and I can't see any domestic club in the world offering him the total control he has with us so Im hopeful - it will be a sad day when he goes but all good things come to an end at some point.
