Pep Guardiola - 2020/21 Performances

I’ve never seen him so tetchy and spiky. Was it the penalty? He certainly had plenty to say about that, especially as it didn’t affect the result. He got a barb in that “we are Manchester City and we have to win everything ourselves”.

Or was it the players? There were comments about less rotation in future and players not playing for the shirt needing to sit on the bench. Who was that?

My guess is that tonight showed our underbelly. A few players looked complacent and made daft errors. We let the opposition dictate for spells. Good opposition could have beaten us tonight. It was a significantly inferior performance to the derby at the weekend yet we won 5-2. But, and it’s a significant but, I remember him being like this a couple of years ago and it turned out that his family had been evicted from a plane to the game because of their support for Catalonia (or something similar). He’s a human being and gets grumpy. Was it something external like that? He actually looked spiky in the pre-match interview to me.

Did anyone else sense this? What was eating The bald genius tonight?
alert :calling all body language experts here;)

I just assumed he had finally got as pissed off with corruption as the rest of us.

I don't see anything wrong with him, just a lot of people reading into nothing. he's used the comfortable victory to point out a ridiculous decision that went against us and subtly mention its not the first time either, he doesn't talk about it when we drop points to avoid it coming across as excuses but he does often when something hasn't cost us the game.

Bald genius. Eh? : /

We conceded 2 goals FFS. The bald fraud it is until we beat BM 10-0 In the CL Final, thanks; )

Yes I noticed it too and I wish he'd gone further and said we are reffed differently at home and Europe because there is a clear agenda against us.

There are lots of evidence of ludicrous decisions given against us and not going for us. He should ask everyone to go and watch the Foden non penalty incident again and explain why Martin Atkinson saw what they saw and decided it wasn't a penalty.

Then ask what is the point of var if it isn't used to correct a blatant injustice by the onfield ref. Then ask why are lots of bad decisions in our games involving referee's like Atkinson, Moss, Mason and Oliver in particular?

Our club should compile a dossier of every blatant decision that has gone against us since 2012 when it was obvious we were a major threat and not going away and present it. We should ask why there is a combined effort by the media and other club's owners to cheat, stifle, block, plot and consistently smear our name and belittle our achievements.

They should ask how is it allowed for a number of clubs to collude together and sign a letter to try and influence CAS into banning us from Europe. The list of justified grievances goes on and on.

As for his comments regarding certain players I thought that was telling. He as good as said if they have only their interests at heart and not the team and club they will stay sat on the bench. Something is rumbling behind the scenes with certain individuals and you can bet Pep will fuck them off close season if the right deals can be done getting them out and quality replacements in. He has moved on huge names before and he will do it again.

well the only players consistently sat on the bench are Steffen, Torres, Mendy and Aguero and 3 of them came on tonight so unless something's happened after Sunday then I can't see too much into that.

As for the rest, well yeah, we know, but it's not going to change, we know we have to play to a ridiculous level to win and as usual it's got to March at just the stage we need to be ruthless and on point and we're fading away again with the usual suspects pissing about.

The refereeing standard must have frustrated the shit out of him as it did every one of us sat at home.......but maybe the fact its now very obvious that we are considerably weaker when Foden,Silva,Rodri,Cancelo and Stones aren't on the pitch, while Gundogan and KDB playing in the same side is also proving problematic......may also be bothering him.

I think it was mainly the penalty call. He brought it up unprompted which means it was really bothering him.

Although then again he gets a bit awkward when he isn't impressed with the team's performance, or at least some aspect of it. Our 1st half performance might have contributed to a more negative mood. I think we tried to force the game too much early on, when really we shouldn't have been afraid of playing it backwards and working on creating openings at times that suit us rather than trying to evade the Southampton press at all costs. That is credit to Southampton and it probably caught us by surprise, but the players should have had more composure about them.
