I quite liked how we set up and it certainly brought the best out of Jesus. Kev would have to be a false 9 in a 5-2-3 because Rodri would be too exposed if he went on too many forward runs, gundo and Bernie have more discipline for the role next to Rodri. It also means Ake when he’s back can get more game time. My only issue is lwb, is Mendy good enough defensively and can Zina get round the left winger?

3-5-2, Ferran and Mendy in first 11, KdB-Gündogan-Mahrez on the bench.

You’re the Goat Pep.

When i saw the starting lineups yesterday i went wtf, did he lose it? We can't be in danger of winning PL, that is bad. But then i realized it was a perfect thing to do.
Rest the players for the 3 difficult and very important games that are coming. We could afford not winning yesterday's game. And give confidence and some minutes to players like Kun, Torres etc that will be needed in this marathon.

3 January 2021 we had this year's 1st game versus Chelsea. Then, shcedule was:

10/01
13/01
17/01
20/01

21 games in 71 days.
That is 1 game every 3.4 days.
On a season that started late September. Insane!

So if we are gonna try for winning 4, a rotation like yesterday will be needed again and was needed earlier anyway.
Seeing the games from our TV with our comfortable couch we tend to forget these are humans that playing and this is a severe schedule for them.
It's not about injuries only, it's mainly about them being tired and out of form.

We were seeing this lately, that the team was tired after that crazy run. So it was a wise choice this big rotation. It worked thankfully. We have to accept the fact that we can't play great every time.

Weird if sterling thinks he's getting negative special attention, in my view it's been the exact opposite with him, he puts in turgid performances, he will still play the 90 and will start the next game, Mahrez is in and out of the side constantly and is often the first off when not performing and torres has barely had a look in. Fodens been playing put wide this season and he too has found himself benched after motm performances.

Sterling gets preferential treatment, it's hard to criticise it because of what he's done for us in the past, it's IFgiven him a lot of money in the bank in terms of being tristed, but it runs out eventually and it seems Pep has had enough and is now treating him like the rest which puts him out of the side and he's not used to it.

I'm expecting this to blow over quickly and hopefully Sterling shows the right mentality, get his head down and can find some form just when we need it.
If the basis of your argument is true, I wholly agree. Raheem has got to reduce his propensity to mess up, whether that's missing absolute glaring sitters, continually losing the ball when dribbling (particularly during attacks down wings), repeatedly failing to complete simple passes/crosses that could lead to goal attempts, constantly not pulling the trigger quick enough &, therefore, enabling defenders opportunity to block goal attempts or any other actions that, because they appear so negligent, cause opponents to either grow in confidence or which gives them hope, saps our belief and frustrates us (us being Pep & his staff, team-mates and fans), especially in big moments and big games. I would add, it's not always a question of form, he can play really well and still make monolithic fails.

It's important to say I absolutely LOVE Raheem and am genuinely grateful to him for his major contribution to our Club's huge success. I accept he is not the only one who is guilty of 'failure to deliver' at times during games and mention the points above only in the light of it being true he's taken umbrage with Pep re being benched.

Pep can’t be happy with him missing open goals in the biggest of games. He needs to sort his shit out to be honest.

It was coming. Raz performance levels have plummeted. I do think he is off to Madrid at some point in the not to distant future. He has/is a fantastic signing and has produced a lot over the recent seasons. Time for him to step up again. We need him for the champions league. Calculated risk by pep but 1 I feel will be justified if we win multiple trophies. Everyone needs a kick up the backside from time to time.

Pep likes his players to want to play so if Raz is upset about not playing then he’s surely on the right path back? Therefore a storm in a teacup? Or am I being too simplistic?
Yes. Throwing a hissy fit because you’re not starting and pointing the finger at other squad members is not good, especially when you’ve had more game time than the majority of the rest of the squad. Pep has taken the appropriate action and if Sterling responds in the appropriate manner we can all move on. The harmony of the squad is far more important than any single player so I’m 100% behind Pep in this.

I have noticed recently when we are on BT and only on BT that whenever Sterling misses a chance or loses the ball then the camera cuts to Pep gesticulating in the dugout. This doesn"t happen with any other player( De Bruyne for example). If I was Sterling I would be naffed off.
