Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

Pep is extraordinary. Anyone who isn't happy with us having him as our manager is being foolish.

That said, I think he's made an important mistake. Pep has underestimated the growing physicality of the game and has left us with physically unimpressive or injury prone players.

I am more inclined to think that given four in a row was unprecedented, it was seen as unfair to not give this group of players a chance to do it again for a fifth time. That it takes a bit of time to rebuild a squad (and a "core" team as such) should be expected. If you look at some other teams they are working hard at copying core elements of Pep's principles and tactics. Arsenal and PSG comes to mind as examples.

One part of the criticism given out to Guardiola is that he is stubborn/not flexible enough. If you look at Arteta he is mixing it up by bringing plenty of defensive players in the squad and they have the ability to change to do a low block tactic. I think you could say that Pep should do the same sometimes - but then its the case that we don't have enough defenders to do that with our current injury crisis. So it is work in progress. You have to give the man time to rectify problems if he really wants to. The squad is too thin for the amount of matches played. There is no question though that pefecting a starting 11 the way Pep likes to do and finding ways to elevate the team spirit brings a top, top ceiling when everyone is more or less injury free. More cynical rotation depending on game/competition with a bigger squad could be an improvement going forward. A certain Ferguson was good at that (long time ago now).

We have better players than we had when he took over and it took him 2 seasons to build the Centurions.
I know that. That’s all past.

Zidane won 3 CL in a row. I want to say everything comes to an end. It’s the club who decides how long the ending is going to last.

Does Pep has energy, ideas and motivation to last 10 more years? Maybe. He will be here much less.

Not in the engine room…the most important part of Pep’s team

2016….A peak Silva, Fernandinho, De Bruyne and a 25 year old Gundogan.

2025…..Ageing De Bruyne, Gundogan and Bernardo….plus Kovacic who is no where near the level required….plus Lewis
