Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

Apart from Peps first season, especially towards the end of it, we have gone into games knowing that if we perform, we have the better players and we will win…..I think for the first time in a long while we have inferior players, especially in the middle and at full back.

Those positions are vital to the way Peps team play and apart from playing one of the youngsters (which I wish he would) his hands are tied and we are now not now able to go head to head with the better teams, no matter what combination he puts out.

He's having a fucking shocker this season. The type of football we play, the set pieces, the back line and the suicidal highness of it, bringing people back early from injuries, gundo, the subs. He's earned a year off, and he's taking it.

In hindsight, it might have been better all round if he’d taken a well deserved sabbatical. That said, where do you find an interim of the right calibre?

Pep absolutely loves the Embargoed section lol, said absolutely nothing in the regular part. And then went on and on. This is a pattern I noticed as well watching the press conferences over the years.

Edit: For those interested.

We had Delph and Zinch at LB in seasons with 100 and 98 pts. But most players were still in their prime and hadn't won 4 in a row. Now some of the players are over the hill and also tired from 4 intense seasons, which has led to many injuries across the board.

The team is heavily disbalanced without Rodri, as we are sorely lacking in physicality, can't control games and have to compensate with more efforts which results in injuries.

Was a very interesting press conference. Was very surprised to learn we are running as much as ever (if not more). The problem is we aren’t keeping the ball to nullify their threats etc.

never really thought of it like that but it makes perfect sense. We need better technical players and less of the doku, nunes, kovacic dribbler types in pep’s eyes

It's very logical too, as a team that doesn't control the game and concedes has to run more to compensate for it. As a result, we get more injuries too. It's not that the players don't run, but that we can't hold on the ball long enough. The control was gone with Rodri.

Without a lynchpin sitting in the milddle, the possesion play we have been excellent at over the years has crumbled, we could spend 10 minutes just dinking it about the back and middle easing out an opening, now the centre circle is a free for all and we are missing or losing the second balls
