Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

I appreciate that he remains wedded to the idea that the system is more powerful than the individual, but why he continues to refuse to rotate wingers during a match is beyond my ken. Our predictability just makes life comfortable for our opponent.

I think I’ve only seen in-match rotation twice in his time here, and both times the change appeared to be instigated by the players.
Because he isn’t Luis Enrique. He is Pep. The one who doesn’t wanna change his system which has been found out by everyone

My problem isn't even necessarily the results this season... Which weren't great.

It's that weve become one of the worst teams in the league to watch. Watching our football is tough.

We used to make fun of Chelsea under Mourinho for the turgid football they'd put up with. We are no less turgid right now, just in a different way.

The fickleness of some of our fans never fails to amaze me, criticism is fine and l think Pep would even admit himself he has made mistakes and not been at his best this season. I think the problems with his marriage have certainly affected his performance this season. However, some calls to sack him are well wide of the mark.
ALL.

You know it’s real when big Steve comes out and makes a video. He’s been to 40+ games and said Pep dropped the ball yet again, we’re boring, and everyone in the stands were confused. Please go watch. He says almost everything we’ve been talking about. This rebuild has to be big and create for the guy who signed a 10 year contract. The system doesn’t work.

In a way he's set standards that are so high that we get frustrated when he doesn't reach them.

I'm sure he and we will be back on it next season.

If you think a new coach is going to come in and turn that OAP midfield into a worthy one and all of a sudden turn bang average wingers in Doku and Savinho into Sterling and Sane, it ain't happening.

I think Pep has done miracles. Any other manager would have us closer to United.

The squad is rubbish, especially in midfield and attack, more so than some of this fanbase thinks.

It has no fullbacks, no worthy number 10, a GK who wants to be in Saudi, a POTY who has decided to have a season off for some reason, a Ballon D'or winning DM who got an ACL, no box to box midfielder, average wide players and a striker that has had to deal with scraps all season yet somehow has nearly 30 goals in all comps this season.
How the hell did we win the league last year?

I think he could have done far better but i guess we'll never know :(

I'm not sure what your sentence means but I am absolutely not joking. The infection that seems to be running rife through the forum is one rendering the supporter with a complete inability to separate fact from emotion. The strain is especially virulent among a small number of highly infectious individuals and transmission is difficult to avoid. A dropped point or loss seems to increase the infection rate exponentially, and makes certain players especially prone to condemnation. Among them, Grealish, Lewis, and Nunes. In previous years, even stellar players were targeted, though the infection seems also to dull the memory, and those players, through the haze of lingering symptoms, are remembered as icons whose stardust left a trail in the hearts and minds the forum and any previous condemnation is consigned to the ether.

When we are targeting 20-year-old first-team players who are already full internationals as 'never will be good enoughs' we have lost the plot, IMO, and all because we have had one relatively poor season in nine. It embarrasses me, I have to be frank.
I don’t know what you’re waffling about. You replied to a comment saying recruitment has been appalling. It absolutely has l, how are you even arguing with that.

How the hell did we win the league last year?

Poor opposition. The standard of football in the PL has dropped off significantly over the past couple of years. It's been a two or three team league since covid with only Liverpool and Arsenal putting forward a credible challenge to City in any competition.

The league was Arsenal's to lose last season and it was a magnificent Foden / Rodri led run that broke them. A run that broke Phil Foden for this season imo. A run that broke a few others truth be told, not least KDB, who has looked more or less finished this season.

Liverpool's easy win this season showed just how weak the PL has become. The fact that our weakest, worst performing squad since the takeover is on the verge of qualifying for next year's CL simply underlines the poor standard of opposition.

Guardiola has had a free pass this year. He's looked tired and stressed throughout the season. In a tougher league we'd be mid table at best, and he is probably well aware of that.

Time for a change.

Pep has to go or Haaland has to go.
Erl does not press which kills Peps game plan, it is like playing with 10 men.
This is not a hate on either they just do not work together, yes we won the treble, because of Bernie, KDB, Rodri, Johnny Stones, Jack, etc.
If Haaland was playing for Palace yesterday he would have scored for fun against us

Pep called him one of the best players in the world a few years ago. After watching him for about 45 minutes it was as clear as day he's not and shows he can/is badly wrong at times. As you say he isn't good enough to play in midfield for us and has been utilised as a band aid at full back. Sometimes to our cost. He was a panic buy at missing out on other targets. As he isn't entrusting most of those we purchased in January to get into a struggling team I fear that some of those are too. After seeing some of our academy graduates flourish elsewhere I'd have liked him to utilise some of those instead and save that £200 million to spend this summer when it doesn't all feel as rushed.

Our sides of the past I would struggle to shoehorn many midfielders off any of the other top sides into our strongest 11, now a lot of them would walk into our team- particularly the wide men. Salah and Saka are light-years ahead of anything we have on the wings.
Phillips/Nunes/Gonzalez - £150m -

Eye watering isn't it?!! Phillips clearly a write off, Nunes not far behind. Haven't written off Nico yet, but find it weird he isn't featuring. I think Marmoush is going to be a decent player for us, but from a club that was by and large operating quite successfully in the transfer market we've started to get an alarming number of duds in recent years.

Don't forget that we were actively pursuing Paqueta until the betting issue. He's hugely overrated. Imagine how many other duffers Pep and Txiki were sniffing around last summer!

You’re mad to think that the prem isn’t a tough league. It’s rammed full of teams with quality all over the pitch. Palace are a prime example of that. They sit in 12th, but they have some proper good players. Bournemouth have just had their star centre back taken from then by the biggest club in the world. Their LB will be high in demand too for big money. Brentford as tricky and they probably deserve a crack at Europe. Brighton and Fulham should also get a mention. Last but not least you’ve got the 16th and 17th in the Europa League final as well as Chelsea in the conference final. The prem has never been stronger.

Pep has even said himself numerous times over the years and quite a few times this season even that the prem is so tough and it gets harder every year.

This comment slightly worries me, cause we didn't play well yesterday. We didn't try to find our striker and just passed it around at the back for most of the game.

I know what I see. The PL is over hyped and definitely not high quality outsude top 3 or 4.
