Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

From masterclass at Newcastle to Disasterclass at Madrid.

The tactics from Pep, and in general his understanding of the team, is arguably worse here than when he messed up the champions league final.

Every single adjustment in this game shows horrendous understanding of the squad on a fundamental level.

1. Haaland is injured. Okay, adjust. Play KdB false 9, or something akin to this. This leads to his worst change:

2. In playing Bernie, Savinho and Foden, he played every single player OUT OF POSITION. Didn't think this was possible but Bernie and Foden don't want to be wingers, and Savinho is not a player through the middle. How Pep doesn't understand this at this point is baffling.

3. How can you play Gundogan, he is not capable of back to back games, he has no legs. At most, 1 of Kova, Bernie or Gundogan should have played in the middle. We have seen this all season the problems with these 3 and overplaying them or playing too many of them at once.

4. Khusanov. He played RB, but his role seemed so unclear in possession, the lad was clearly confused. He also can't speak English, so why change his tactical role so quickly before he adapts to a certain system. You can't switch things up on him that quickly.

Obviously the players didn't play well, but when you set them up so poorly, I give them a little more excuse.

This game is all on Pep. Horrific.

Well that was a hard watch. Love Pep, but something has broken this season - he's always had such incredible energy, and he just sends strangely listless and passive.

Like I said in the match thread, you'd think he was a Madrid legend and not a Barca one with how utterly uninspired we played, it's like Steve Bruce against the rags but with the trademark baffling CL style system on top of it.

his backroom staff needs as much new blood as the playing squad. to think we are ok to go with same GK coach, defensive coach, Lillo, set piece coach is a joke...

tired ideas, tired solution to problems. he needs more help clearly. Lillo sitting there and sleeping aint much of a help.

Not even considering how Madrid destroyed his Bayern teams or how his City teams capitulate at the first sign of resistance.

From our first XIs to subs to fitness management, done more harm than good this season.

Where these players expecting him to leave and when he extended they just can't do it again? He must be so intense to work for was his extension actually de motivating to this squad? Foden, Eddie, Dias, Silva aren't bad players something must be impacting them

Shame he didn’t fancy attacking in a game where we needed goals. Putting Foden out wide but Savinho central - when they both excel when those roles are switched - was baffling to start off with.

Over complicated Haaland being out IMO.

Bore off blaming Pep.

He's been let down by the players this season, maybe not intentionally but a lot of them have lost their pace and desire this season.

He'll know who to fuck off this summer, ala Summer 2017. Club World Cup won't matter as that'll get treated like pre-season until we get to the Quarters/Semis (if we get there).
