There's no arguing with what Pep has done so far in his time here. That's banked and when he walks away from here there should be a statue of him, put him in the middle of Mercer and Allison, name a stand after him but honour him and his legacy.
However I think for now currently he would also be the first to admit the old adage that you're only as good as your last game and you cannot rest on your laurels. The positives for me are the club are going nowhere in the longer term, the Haaland signing, the new younger players coming have started quite well, a new hotel and a new stand all point to the club investing and wanting to be at the very top table, so it will come good again.
The negatives right now for me are persisting with the same formation over and over 3 games per week and conceding the same goals and making the same errors each week. I get Pep wants to play his system but surely without the players to work within that frame then just for now tighten it up, stop with the high line and have a plan B. I have found it concerning that the last 25 games or so excluding a handful, have by and large been a mirror image of the previous one before, and that's on Pep. It's not heresy to question Pep and without going into every minor detail you just have to look at some of the key parts of our play that we are lacking in. Our set pieces are woeful, our high line continually gets caught out, the lack of using subs and flogging players for 90mins and a continuous change of the starting 11 with or without injuries. We desperatley need a couple of enforcers, I long to see somebody stand up to the likes of Rudiger and others. The constant rotation of the ball, breaking only to stop at the halfway line to rotate and protect the back four whilst they regroup and the lack of pace all round, our game management this season are key fundamental problems within the squad. There are other minor issues in our game that stand out far more with the bigger issues mentioned above but I will leave it there.
Of course Pep should have the chance to address this next season and nobody is really suggesting otherwise but I'm genuinely concerned that so far he hasn't made too big an impact on improving the situation. For all the media like to tell us we've fallen off a cliff, we are still 4th and have an FA Cup to win. There's another 16 teams behind us that wouldn't mind being on the same cliff edge as us right now. We need a big push starting Sunday to finish the season on a high before winning the world cup and going again in August. Pep and the team need us now more than ever!
