Pep has been disappointingly stubborn at times but this is the way he is and there is an argument he has been too loyal to the older players resulting in poor performances. However, the cupboard is bare and there isn’t a great deal he can do at the moment without changing our football ethos.

If we reach a point this time next year after a summer of large scale recruitment and there isn’t an improvement then possibly we can ask whether we need a management change. However I’d be amazed if we weren’t close to old city after 3-4 new players arrive.

We are a very professional well run club with a structure that can see what needs to be done to realise improvements.

lets be honest lot of our players are underperforming this season. look at Foden as main example compared to last season. or Grealish in general. KDB legs are gone etc.

but Pep and Lillo are underperforming too as the two main coaches of the first team.

its not like they are doing perfect work its just everything else going against us...

main worry if these two have enough in the tank motivation, hunger, to rebuild the side, reinstall the hunger in the side, and also tactical adaptation to the new challenges.

we aint going to dominate clubs like we used to. not even if Rodri is back. most of those players got old and weak who were our backbone like KDB, Gundo, Walker, Stones, Ederson. the replacements and recent signings like Doku, Nunes, Kovacic not anywhere close... we went from Mahrez to Doku. huge drop off. Kovacic compared to prime Gundo same...
serious question marks on defenders too Ake, Akanji, Stones, did we see the best of them at City already? possibly yes, thats a big problem if they will play major role next season too in our backline...

Phil Foden hasn't played central midfield once in his career. Nico O'Reilly would get absolutely embarrassed by Real Madrid. His first team experience comprises a good game at left back against Salford.
Yeah because tonight wasn't embarassing mate, and O'Reilly's lack of experience is totally Pep's fault who has constantly refused to give him even a few minutes against PL teams, maybe if he'd used him a bit instead of playing the magical duo of Gundo and Bernie to death he'd have more experience.

True, but we’re also fallible and capable of making mistakes, which is why we’re in this situation.

How do you know he's even close to being good enough to play in the PL then, let alone against the best team in the world?

Just read back what you're arguing.

Chelsea wanted him, so there's some ability there that at least other clubs can see.

If he's not going to play, then we should've just sold him.

I don't mate because Pep has barely played him and instead played Gundo and Bernie to death who are absolutely not good enough to play in the PL anymore let alone against Madrid who btw are not the best team in the world.

Yep, he makes mistakes as does the club. Collective not enough attention to recruitment or not taking a chance on the court cases maybe. We’ve had huge amounts to deal with as a club this season, probably too much

Because there's no way we'll win anything under Guardiola again, is there?
Who knows, I mean Ten Hag won a couple of cups and he was absolute dogshite, we might win an FA cup becaue even shit teams can win it but there is no way we'll win the league or the CL again if Pep continues like this and doesn't adapt, I'm not saying he's finished but if he continues like this he will be, again he needs to change things to get back on top.

Felt for Pep over both legs being let down by inexplicable errors
Tonight’s fuck up after 4 minutes was worse than tossing the home leg away. At least at 3-2 we were somehow still in it, but a 4-2 it was gone and we then had to tread through a game trying not to get totally embarrassed

If you want to know what chucking O'Reilly into this fixture would do to him i suggest you read the Lewis thread.

Think Pep fucked it a bit tonight. Even if we didn't make it easy for them to score, we weren't set up to threaten them or remain solid in midfield/defence. Having Bernardo as RW and Savinho false 9 was...just a bit shit.

A bit frustrating to go from the good performance vs Newcastle to not laying a glove on Madrid until the vinegar strokes.

His career has been defined by changing how his teams play, so I'm pretty confident he'll do it again.

Yeah except Lewis has played regularly and we know he mostly ain't good enough, Khusanov has barely played but he didn't look out of sorts tonight, we don't know if O'Reilly is good enough or not because he never plays and you don't improve if you never play.

Oh and plenty us knew exactly what this fixture would do to Bernie and Gundo and he still played them.
