Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

Nunes has been a long way away from being our worst player this season. A long way.
That in no way means it wasn’t a mistake. He was signed as a midfielder, 50 million might I add. Because he is shit there and the rest of the decisions by the board have been diabolical he has had to play in defence. And that fuck up against the rags…

Some of the comments on here since FT yesterday re Pep needing to go are, well, eye opening.

You don't have to say he needs to go though, you just don't have to agree with either the players HE has bought or the tactics he is employing that are bombing.

The thumbs out Pep quilt mob just can't bear it and take it personally :)

That's totally different to saying he needs to go, though. And there have been quite a few of those posts in the last 18 hours or so. I totally agree with you re evolving our tactics, though.

Looks like that fella is just a dull free speech warrior who thinks all opinions are born equal.

When some posters say that you just CANNOT criticise his tactics and ask the question why these new players haven't been played you know you've hit the twilight zone.

It's like employing someone to plumb your bath and shower in and they fuck it up but you can't criticise them because you yourself can't do it, it's a bit bonkers really.

It's life Jim, but not as we know it.

Haaland is good for the clubs profile, if I am honest I would rather get rid of Pep than have to replace most of the squad, controversial I know but there it is.

Not only aren’t you that bright but your analogies are terrible. And you seemingly don’t have the courage of your convictions.

You cough out some word salad and present it as truth, you're more stupid than others give you credit for.

Thick as mince :)

So we’d miss out on the best player we’re targeting, and end up with an inferior player instead.

We’ve bought far too many players who aren’t top drawer in the past couple of years. We need to start buying the best again, and missing out on the CL would make that a lot harder to do.
I absolutely agree that we need to get CL, not only for recruitment, but it also continues to raise the profile of the club in Europe and Worldwide.

Players want to be playing at the highest level and Wirtz is no different.

No-one knows what's going to happen a season or two down the line but if the choice now is between teams in the CL or not, he's going to Bayern!

As for buying players who aren't top drawer, that has mainly come down to the players choice. We did buy Erling and Gvardiol, but Bellingham and Rice, who we both had interest in, obviously had their own reasons for not coming to us.
I'm not really sure who else has been sold, apart from Kane and Mbappe who we didn't need anyway, that falls into top drawer category.

The recent signings seem to fit the profile of buying the best young talent from around the world, so we'll see how they work out.

But also, apart from Nunes, you can make a case for all our other signings.
Kovacic was/is a very good player and in a midfield rotation, looked a decent signing, the same with Gundo. Both were never expected to play every game.
Marmoush looks a good player and so does Gonzalez and even watching Phillips for dirty Lids and England, i could see at the time why we bought him.

Not sure why you're throwing this tactics thing at me; I never mentioned anything about criticising his tactics. People were straight out calling for him to go. Which they're perfectly entitled to voice. Doesn't mean I have to agree with that view. Which I don't.

To be fair Jim I said SOME posters not you.

You got to be joking, they are all mistakes bar Savinho who shouldn’t be near a City first 11.
I'm not sure what your sentence means but I am absolutely not joking. The infection that seems to be running rife through the forum is one rendering the supporter with a complete inability to separate fact from emotion. The strain is especially virulent among a small number of highly infectious individuals and transmission is difficult to avoid. A dropped point or loss seems to increase the infection rate exponentially, and makes certain players especially prone to condemnation. Among them, Grealish, Lewis, and Nunes. In previous years, even stellar players were targeted, though the infection seems also to dull the memory, and those players, through the haze of lingering symptoms, are remembered as icons whose stardust left a trail in the hearts and minds the forum and any previous condemnation is consigned to the ether.

When we are targeting 20-year-old first-team players who are already full internationals as 'never will be good enoughs' we have lost the plot, IMO, and all because we have had one relatively poor season in nine. It embarrasses me, I have to be frank.

Pep called him one of the best players in the world a few years ago. After watching him for about 45 minutes it was as clear as day he's not and shows he can/is badly wrong at times. As you say he isn't good enough to play in midfield for us and has been utilised as a band aid at full back. Sometimes to our cost. He was a panic buy at missing out on other targets. As he isn't entrusting most of those we purchased in January to get into a struggling team I fear that some of those are too. After seeing some of our academy graduates flourish elsewhere I'd have liked him to utilise some of those instead and save that £200 million to spend this summer when it doesn't all feel as rushed.

Our sides of the past I would struggle to shoehorn many midfielders off any of the other top sides into our strongest 11, now a lot of them would walk into our team- particularly the wide men. Salah and Saka are light-years ahead of anything we have on the wings.

I appreciate that he remains wedded to the idea that the system is more powerful than the individual, but why he continues to refuse to rotate wingers during a match is beyond my ken. Our predictability just makes life comfortable for our opponent.

I think I’ve only seen in-match rotation twice in his time here, and both times the change appeared to be instigated by the players.

place is a car crash when a point is dropped, the hot take over reactions are amazingly funny though.
The fickleness of some of our fans never fails to amaze me, criticism is fine and l think Pep would even admit himself he has made mistakes and not been at his best this season. I think the problems with his marriage have certainly affected his performance this season. However, some calls to sack him are well wide of the mark.
