Pep - no signings coming in in January

Or is all this smoke and mirrors so that whoever we want doesn’t go somewhere else for mega amounts more or we are forced to pay over the odds?

Some talk that since we said that Barca are trying to drop their bid for de Jong.

Typical and well used Barca tactic. When they originally signed Sanchez they targeted the player and once he said he’d only sign for them they successfully reversed the bidding war with us and the Rags and got him relatively cheaply - certainly for less than we’d have paid. In the De Jong transfer it’s pretty clear Barca have the player, his father and his agent ‘convinced’ - so the transfer fee will come down. Longer term I guess it’s suits Ajax to keep Barca on-side. The cartel in football reaches well beyond FFP - many clubs across Europe have been well trained and versed to sell their players to Barca or Bayern... we have a long way to go and are naive to believe deep pockets alone can buy us a seat at the top table. You could argue that PSGs approach has been more successful but I suspect anymore cases of them ‘stealing’ an elite player like Neymar and they’ll swiftly be put in their place by the cartel.

You would have thought somewhere on the planet there were players available in Jan who could perform admirably as understudy to Fernandinho and help out at LB till the end of the season...
We don't want an understudy we want someone almost ready to take over from him over the next 18 months. We want some one that if Fernandinho has any longer term injury /loss of form is ready to step in . We won't be buying any plan b or stop gap, the squad place available isn't going to be blocked off by anyone that isn't the player we want.

Sam Lee hinting on his twitter feed that Pep want's signings (a left back) but City won't allow a signing.

Think the FFP troubles are holding us back?

It seems that way but I can’t understand how? We had a net spend in the summer of £26m ish and were prepared to spend £50m ish on Jorginho which never happened?! Plus Diaz is leaving for £13.5m so that should be plenty of room!

Nope saving up for Fernandinho replacement another striker and we all know that will cost at least 200m
