Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

It'll not be on the line and rightly so, but don't kid yourself.

Winning trophies is so so important. It will damage the brand if we don't. Remember this is a growing club commercially. It's attracting new fans and that fan type are glory hunters who want to see instant success.

We can be competitive on and off the pitch whilst still developing.

That said, I think it's all immaterial mate because we'll win the league this season. No question.

You are of course correct. It's ridiculous to suggest that winning nothing this season will not be seen as anything but an enormous disappointment and Pep would be under enormous pressure. But it won't happen because we are the best squad and team in the premier league and we expect to win it. We've been building this team for a couple of years now and, whilst I expect fine tuning improvements with personnel, we are also good enough now to win the champions league as well as the Premier League.

As you correctly say, the time is now.

Really hope that Guardiola extends his contract, and think he will do. It's a bit depressing to think that we could already be almost half way through his tenure here if he didn't.

Agreed, it all comes down to trophies, but it also comes down to what is most important right now, winning a trophy this season, or our long term sustained progress? I never take anything for granted, ESPECIALLY the PL as there are 5 major competitors who have got a hand in any charge toward the PL title we have in our sights.

I honestly believe that if we win nowt this season, there will be disappointment, but there won't be any internal pressure on Pep, and the only pressure that will be applied will be from the usual suspect in the media spouting their usual 'City have spent £XYZm, so should be doing the quadruple year on year'.

One thing that seriously pleased me was when I realised that we've largely won games this season with the players we had last season, which shows the difference a top level manager can make when given time. The most pleasing aspect of our progression is this proves that Pep's philosophy is rapidly taking hold at the club and any new players we bring in will only continue to improve an already impressively performing squad.

I'm not ITK or anything, but I have a real feeling that something major is about to happen to our club in the next 12 months that will shock the shit out of everyone INCLUDING our own fans. Look, I'd love to win every trophy we can this season, but if we don't win one I won't be too unhappy because our progress and potential next season and especially season 2019-2020 is a seriously frightening prospect, and the world is beginning to realise this!

Yep and even if he does sign a new contact we could do with someone shawdowing him ready to take over who knows exactly how to implement Pep’s philosophy and tactics in minutiae. Arteta or Vieira spring to mind.

For me the league is the number 1 priority this season. We are doing very well and now I think we finally have the squad to sustain this form through the tough winter period.

Anything other then the league is a bonus. CL is a competition that you can’t say it’s our number one priority. It’s a knockout tournament and luck is a major factor. Look at the rags thier pot 1 team has 0 points after 4 matches scoring once and conceding 10 goals. I don’t think we’ll ever see a pot 1 team that is so bad ever again.

Look at Real’s run in the 2015/16 season. They got Roma in the round of 16 and won both games 2-0. Wolfsburg in the quarter finals lost the first game 2-0, amazingly won the second game 3-0, very close to being eliminated. Then they got us in the semi finals where they were again lucky to score a fluke goal in the second match, the only goal of the tie. Then won the final on penalties against Atletico. So that year Real managed to avoid the traditional elite European sides and still barely won it.

Luck is a major factor in the CL which is why it is ridiculous to prioritze it.

I do think we’ll win it with in the next 5 years.

I believe Pep wins the league this year and signs extension. That would leave me extremely satisfied.

Pep will leave when he feels his task is finished. That could be either he thinks he brought the squad to its limits, or he feels the squad isn't able to live up to his demands. Winning trophies isn't one of his main goals. He simply states that when his team plays to his demands it'll be great to watch and silverware will often be the automatic reward. And he is right. If we keep up the way we are playing right now and improve where Pep feels the need, we all know silverware will be at the end of it depending on what competition.
I like to see Pep being the prophet with the mission to promote the beauty that football contains when it's played in the right way with the players who can understand and perform. At Bayern there was huge disappointment that Pep didn't won the CL. But they now realize what high standards his team had and they played some amazing football with a German core. As did Barcelona with Messi within the Spanish core, although I do remember the tiki-taki was overperformed at one stage. We are heading in the direction of trying to get to that kind of level with an English influence being present more than ever (a backline with Walker-Stones-Delph). And it's pretty obvious for everyone to see. We have played fantastically under Mancini or the first season under Pellegrini. But it simply looks better now.
It'll be hard to get someone who will develop Pep's style of coaching and take if even further. I know such kind a manager will arise somewhere and hopefully we will get him. As it is now, I simply enjoy what's been on show hoping in vein it'll last forever.

I don't think enough credit is given for this.

Everyone was wanking over tiki taki at one stage but it was ultimately tedious.

He's shifted gear into another form of football.

And English element is vital. Gives youngsters the feel that 'it could be me'

Not only does Pep get little or no credit for regularly selecting 4 current English international players it is rarely mentioned how much he has greatly improved them, particularly Raz, Big John and the reborn Delph(inio). Walker is also looking a better player.
