Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

He's underperforming. No question about that. Results and performances do not lie. We've gone backwards.

His immediate job (in August) was to look at what he had and make that work. He has failed to do that (compare him with Conte).

It's too early to give up on him (obviously). I hope he gets it right. If he doesn't, lets cut our losses and get Simeone.

No room for sentiment here. Fail. Go. Move on.

How long should we give him then in your opinion? 9mths, 12 mths? The transformation of the squad and the way we will play isn't going to happen overnight with only 1 transfer window to implement it. He and it needs time.

There have been signs that his ideas are absolutely fine, in the games i've listed we were fantastic, we were also great against Everton, Saints and 'Boro at home but indivdual errors cost us 6 points in total errors also cost us 3 v Chelsea.
Also to compare him with Conte isn't on, he's got a side that won the title 20 months ago that massively under performed because of Mourinho and he's got them back to their best.

Once we've had the next summer transfer window we'll see a much improved, younger and faster squad for him to implement his ideas.

Pep suffers his worst league defeat.

Guadiola and the future thread dissappear's.

Pep to sign an extension to his contract thread.

Aye great times!

Sounds like a load of propaganda.

Thanks. Constructive.

A couple of points though.

It is not conveniently ignoring his past achievements. Its about here and now. I used to have hair and a 26 inch waist but that doesn't apply here and now. Its not relevant.

I don't have any agenda whatsoever just concern for our club.

The ten game run has long gone. Over 3 months ago. 9 wins in the 21 games since is not good enough even if it includes Barca, Arsenal.

The fact that it is a long term plan doesn't make it right. We are going backwards at an alarming rate and apart from the odd flash of brilliance, there is little to take much optimism from here and now.

The bore off comment is dismissive if you want constructive debate and probably best describes how I felt at Goodison yesterday when the only positive mention Guardiola got was the half hearted attempt at his song at kick off time. It used to blast round every ground and I was one of those singing it.

I'm with you mate. I was at Goodison yesterday. I joined in every chant. Encouraged the team throughout the whole game. And stayed to applaud them off at the end.

I didn't post yesterday as I think it's best to sleep on these things.

My concern are not about yesterday. We aren't progressing.

Not sure what you're apologising for.[/QUOTE]

I just think you need to think before you post

In a nutshell. My annoyance is that I don't see any week on week progression. I have no agenda, I just love this club.

Only guessing, but I reckon our struggles have made an extension more likely. If everything had gone well he may have thought he could achieve everything he wanted in 3 years. The struggles have made him realise it will take longer, and I don't think he's one to want to leave a job half done. Wouldn't be surprised if he does sign an extension, if it hasn't come from Pep.

I too was thinking about this point yesterday. It's clear that Conte has done a great job at looking at what he was lacking and has used what he has accordingly. It's a huge difference from someone like Mourinho who would throw the toys out of the pram/publicly undermine the players and basically let everything fall apart in the name of proving his point.

A lot are criticising Pep for trying to implement a system where he doesn't have the personnel to actually make it work and citing Conte as an example of how it should be done. I do wonder though, is it possible Guardiola is looking at things more long term? If he wants to change how we play and believes that is the way forward for us, is it possible that he was always willing to sacrifice silverware this season in the name of implementing his philosophy? I'm not trying to blindly defend him here, as I think the jury's still out, but it kind of makes sense to me that someone might choose to put their playing style first if they see it as part of long term project that will reap benefits ahead. That said, if he is willing to make sacrifices this season, we may as well at least throw younger players in there who we hope might have a future at the club. i.e. i'd much rather see Aleix Garcia at least given a go in CM ahead of Zabaleta who we all know has no real future for us in that position and lacks the attributes we require from someone playing in that role.

Where's the evidence for this.

1. It's in the thread you're posting in.
2. It's common sense because City have planned for Pep for YEARS. He's part of a large scale transformation of the club and brand and he's the peg upon which it all hangs.

Not sure what you're apologising for.

Oh, I was going off your post history and assuming that you would be quite sad to hear Pep Guardiola is staying even longer than his three year contract implied. My mistake.

It is not conveniently ignoring his past achievements. Its about here and now. I used to have hair and a 26 inch waist but that doesn't apply here and now. Its not relevant.

That's not relevant because nobody gives two shits about your waist or hair. If you can't see why City and it's owners would care about Pep's pedigree and past accomplishments then I assume, naturally, you're being obtuse.

I don't have any agenda whatsoever just concern for our club.

As do I.

It concerns me that we have fans who are only willing to give a manager half a season to turn around an aging squad that isn't even his.

The ten game run has long gone. Over 3 months ago.

So it didn't exist! Perfect! Emporers new clothes!

The fact that it is a long term plan doesn't make it right.

Nor wrong.

We are going backwards at an alarming rate

Are we?

there is little to take much optimism from here and now.

Seems a number of people are taking optimism from the news our manager will extend his contract. Maybe you're just grumpy.

The bore off comment is dismissive if you want constructive debate and probably best describes how I felt at Goodison yesterday when the only positive mention Guardiola got was the half hearted attempt at his song at kick off time.

It was sang quite a lot before the game started and at the beginning of the first half.

But sure, keep on inventing masses of people who seem to agree with you about Pep and ignore the fact you're clearly in the minority here. It's hard to engage in any kind of constructive discussion with someone so unreasonable they are ready to condemn the manager as a fraud, ignoring his past accomplishments of course, based on half a season. You know why? Because it's fucking stupid.

The big question is this though,is he gonna be given the green light to get some recruits in for the remaining 15 days of this window,to try and save this current season first ??? @tolmieshairdoo

Don't worry Bill I didn't choose to ignore this like everyone else. Completely agree with you here. Having the Balls to make those cut throat decisions are what define you and he doesn't make them
he's seems reluctant to take action when its obvious its not working. he'll have to sooner or later.
