Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

I can see some merit in a 1 year extension, it gives Viana a season to get his feet under the table before the new manager is appointed, especially as his mate Amorim has chosen the dark side so it's likely Viana and the new boss won't have worked together before. That will be a big change from Txiki and Pep being virtually joined at the hip and able to iron out differences of opinion over a meal and a couple of bottles of wine.

I assume Viana is going to have the final say on transfers with the new boss so 12 months working with Pep on the squad refresh makes sense to me.

Neither the club, nor Pep, will want any extension to be a two season care taker role. Our ambition, and Pep's is far bigger than that.

Fucking hell people! Think about the actual consequences implied in these various assumptions of yours.

A lack of ambition would be not making the transition as seamless as possible, which means involving Pep in that process - nothing to do with a "caretaker" role, just better than having a new DoF and a new manager starting from scratch next summer.

Even a one year extension is a huge positive, players do sign because of Pep he is a huge pull, yes we are now an elite club, but so are Madrid etc, having even 12 months with Pep's teachings is a pull for a lot of players.

And the days of a new manager/coach bringing in "his" players has long gone at this club.

It's pretty poor that this has been allowed to happen.
Like with any business they have tried to sweat the assets as much as possible plus the recruitment has been mediocre this last few years. We were not great last year and scraped the league. We didn't win away at rivals. The warning signs should of been there. I also think they maybe nervous getting lots of players in and then Pep pissing off and the new manager wanting something slightly different. We are at a cross roads here and Pep needs to tell us what he is doing. 1 years extension will not make a difference when you think of how many players need to be replaced.

A friend of mine told me there is strict budget around wages. We have seen some significant wage increases over the years hence we have a smaller squad as we are not able to go over the limit on wages.
